I just got my jeep back from the shop yesterday with rebuilt T-18 installed, at first I was spooked because it makes more noise than my T-150 (especially with the tunnel cover off) but it seems to be running pretty good, except the Dana 20 Transfer Case keeps popping out of gear into neutral. I went on a 20 mile joyride this morning and it popped out 4 times, for no apparent reason. I have JB Twin Sticks which have adjustable linkage and I'm hoping an adjustment can be made to fix it but until I can get it looked at Monday, would anyone care to speculate?

Bass says you may have had a shift rod ball or spring pop out on the Transfer Case . We are driving right now. He will call you when we get home. A little over 2 hours. He seems to think you can reach them with the tunnel cover off.

There is a few things that can cause this issue. A good place to start is the detent springs.

The spring and detent ball were rusted pretty bad in the Dana 20 I regeared last year. There wasn't much movement of the ball. Unfortunately its not easy to change the ball and spring. You will need to remove the Transfer Case to do it. At least that's what it appears to need.

.... Just a thought ....... Another thing to look at. Do you have a T-18 version of the Dana 20 . Your Dana 20 should have a long tube for the Transfer Case shifting mechanism. The Twin Stick does away with some of the tube, but the pivot point is still for the long tube. Now I honestly don't know if the short tube can be used with the Twin Stick and the T-18 , but the sticks would be further back and you might be getting interference with the shift boots making the Transfer Case pop out of gear.
