Ten Factory 27spline Dana 30 axles-CJ7

As I have posted before I am working on doing a drum to disk conversion which has lead me to completely break down my from differential. In doing so I discovered that I have some buggered axles and spindles.

I have ordered replacement Crown drum CJ7 spindles and Ten Factory axles. The concern I have is the axles do not seem to fit the spindles.

In tracking down a spindle bearing kit it appears the spindle kit for a disk break setup has the larger ID outer slinger and it uses a nylon thrust washer versus a bronze one. Upon inspecting my Ten Factory axles I notices it takes the larger ID slinger and has no provision for the inner axle slinger that goes up against the axle tube. Finally doing a test fit with my current spindle the shaft seems a touch too big (joke there i am sure) to exit the spindle.

I have double checked Quandratec site and Ten Factory to ensure I ordered the correct set.

Obviously I am going to contact both vendors on Monday but I am concerned now that I don't have the correct or matching axles/spindles.

Stay away from Crown. Crown=China JUNK.

You might want the wheel & spindel bearings for a 1985 Jeep CJ7 with disc brakes.
Have no clue about the nylon thrust-washer you speak off.
If it's the one that goes on the axle, inside the knuckle. That is just a dust shield, and carries no 'load'.
Do you have a service manual on hand?

Thanks Lumpy, unfortunately I suspect that outfit carries Yukon which does not have a drum spindle; I called Yukon directly to ask. From all I have research, it is either Omix Ada or Crown for spindles. Omix is complete so Crown is the lesser of two evils.

Crown and Omix are the same China junk just sold under different names.
Not calling Randy 'cause you 'guess', is not the best thought as he builds axles.
You say you're do'n a drum to disc conversion. Why do you want a drum spindle?

Fair enough! I will give Randy a shout on Monday.

I want a drum spindle because I am doing The Jeep Guy's drum to disc conversion. I has asked him earlier if I needed to change my spindles as well and he advised "no the kit was designed to work with the drum spindles."

From what I can tell there is a difference between the drum and disc; hence why I want a drum spindle.

I did do some more test fitting just now and it appears one spindle goes on just fine. The other spindle looks like it is mongered up on the inside; this was the first one I did a test fit on earlier today.

So I looks like the axles fit but now I am confused cause it looks like it uses the disc spindle bearing kit.

I'm get'n a bit 'cornfused' too. IIRC, the couple conversions I have seen used the OEM disc brake spindles and such.

The stub shaft, spindles, seals and bearings are not the same between the drum and discs.
The disc inner bearing is larger and has a step on the spindle for it
The inner and outer drum bearings are both the same and does not have the step.

Here is a pic to maybe clarify things, the more I am reading and from replies it appears I do need the disc spindles to work with the Ten Factory axles.

In looking at the Ten Factory I see the step down on the outer axle. This is weird though because the list this part for 72-81 CJ5 /CJ7 with 27 spline; they dont make a distinction between drum and disc.

The parts that were given me fits are the smaller ID slinger and the bronze thrust washer, they dont correspond with the new axle.

It should, from what I can tell I just need the six bolt spindle. I have been trying to determine if the drum and disc are interchangeable; I think the answer is yes with a replacement of the outer axle shaft since the spindle bearing kit is different and the inner bearing size is different.

But the question is what wheel bearings to I need?

It appears the actual spindle bearing is the same, just different additional items per application.

I currently have Timken Set45 for inner and outer wheel bearings for the hub, do these need to be changed out?

I believe so, the disc spindle where it slides into the knuckle is 3.38" OD. Both are 6 bolt spindles.
The OP can measure his drum spindle to verify.

I re-read it, I am inferring yes they need to be change out but question is to which?

I just looked up on Timken's sit for 76 and 79, Set45 for outer and Set47 for inner match both year's.
