Now that's sharp!

Got the steering column in, most of the outstanding under dash wiring connections connected, so I went ahead and just set the steering wheel in place to see what it was gonna look like. Too dark without a flash and over done with - but you get the idea. And my phone makes the wheel look HUGE - but it’s exactly the same diameter as the original.

Looks almost natural too me :). Looks great

That looks really good to me, that’s my favorite Jeep wheel they made and you managed to make it better, what steering column cover are you using? The one I had was a 1 piece plastic that the column had to slide thru

Thanky -
I need a column cover - and the intermediate shaft needs to go in as well - I mainly stuck the column in there to et it the heck outta my way and get me closer to initial start of the engine. It’ll probly hafta come out for the cover but that’s no big deal

I missed the bottle opener on that one :)

Double tap - Again.....

The inserts might be a bit of overkill, but some walnut shift knobs would go well with that steering wheel.

Ok, I'll get my hat.......

Here’s one of em with lacquer thinner on it to check color.....

Thanky, Sir - That certainly wasn't the intent.... it's been a three pronged endeavor...... I needed to fix the steering wheel somehow, and for me wood was the easiest option. Second, I am teaching a Woodshop class this year at the high school, and the kids have actually been interested and tracking progress. And third, a friend of mine and I are always trying to outdo each other. He recently bought a '78 280Z to fix up..... so the game is afoot.

We have a small computerized router - more of a small carver - at work. Hoping to machine the shift patterns into the tops of the knobs.... We'll see how it goes.

Wow ! That's a heck of a knob job there.

Thanks for the kind words - I appreciate it.

With that said, since I teach high school, my sense of humor has never really progressed much past that...... I just blew beer out of my nose when I read that HAHAHAHA...

Well I gotta tell you. I kinda figured that out a couple of months back, and figured you would appreciate that. And again you do great work. Wish I could have had you as my teacher

And again, thank you. I learned my woodworking skills from my next door neighbor growing up. Then the last 20 years or so I've honed up my finishing by occasionally restocking rifles in nice walnut. This stuff comes pretty easy just 'cause I've done it so long........

About as close to that, that I have come to that is refinishing a couple of stocks. My brother has a small business of hand crafting acoustic wood panels that hang in auditoriums.

The panels sound interesting. Does he build em to spec or does he have a little creative room to wander around in?
