I had a similar saga. The third water pump I got had the right shaft length but it's cast body was slightly different. This caused interference between the dual groove pulley and the pump. The back groove was unused, as it formerly drove the air injection pump which is long gone. So, I had a machinist throw it on a lathe and cut the rear groove off the pulley. Worked like a charm.
