Thermostat or water pump

Thermostat or water pump
Funny, I've replaced more than one thermostat and had my troubles go away almost every time. When tested the old one seem to open correctly. My point is, just because the thermostat opens in hot water doesn't mean there isn't a problem. I always change them when working with or on the water pump. Even today they are cheap and easy to replace. Peace of mind is a value in itself.

Could you explain how a thermostat that "opens fully" in hot water and "closes completely" when cold could cause an overheat issue?

The water is getting hotter on the stove than what it gets in the motor to make it open.

Not in this case, his engine boiled over. A system with a 15lb cap running 50/50 mix will boil at 265*, a pan of water boils at 212* that's a 53* difference. So if he keeps the thermostat off the bottom of the pan (hang it by a wire) he should have a good indication on its condition.

All I know is he replaced it and it fixed his problem. This is like beating a dead horse I'm done.

Can't explain it myself, all I know is that for less than $10.00 and a little time the problem I had went away. I'm not a scientist, I'm just an old country boy who knows how to turn a wrench or two. I imagine life inside an engine running at speed is a great deal different from life in a cup on the stove.

I think you and I are a alot alike, I think sometimes people tend to over think things.

He also flushed the system that could have removed an air pocket or restriction, installed a new cap, could have been the thermostat as well. I guess we'll never know. The bottom line it's fixed.
