Hi everybody,

I just installed offenhauser 6257 DP in my 1981 CJ I6 AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l + Holley TA 470, the low end performance is very good. i will try to get a dyno result after its fully tuned to get better picture to see if the overall system really gain something better than stock.

I have issue with the throttle, it is now a bit more hard to press the pedal and seems that the cable is not long enough to reach the linkage.

Appreciate any advise of what throttle cable I can use that is longer than the stock and how to deal with the linkage.

Thanks.

So if you are stating that there is not enough travel length in the cable, you could move the position of the cable on the carb to a position closer to the axis of the throttle shaft.

Hi Torxhead,

I'll try your suggestion, my vehicle is right hand steering ... so the accelerator cable has to go from right side of the vehicle (the side which has the ignition distributor) to the left side before reaching the carb throttle linkage.

With the original intake the linkage position was inline with the engine ... as with the offy intake the carb position is rotated 90 deg with the linkage now facing front of the vehicle.

So I am saying it might be to much bending as for now the cable has to rotate round the carb before reaching the linkage ... longer cable might help as the bending is not to sharp.

Regards,

It sounds like you have quite an interesting setup. As a suggestion, would adding some more carb throttle linkage hardware like a rod and bellcrank(If you can understand what I am describing), to make the operation between the cable and throttle operate easier?

Hi Torxhead,

I've taken a pictures, kindly check if that is what you mean.

There is another additional linkage (new one) installed between the carb and the accelerator pedal.

So I just thought if we can removed the new additional linkage in between and go direct from pedal to the carb it will be much softer/lighter to press the pedal.

Regards,

Thanks for sending in those pics, it looks like you might need a longer cable or might have to rotate that carb. That cable might even be binding up and that return spring could be causing problems with the operation at full throttle btw. hopefully with a little thought and planning you will be able to enginner up something. Looks like you have a great bunch of guys to wheel with also.

Hi Torxhead,

Ok, will try to optimize what I have 1st and plan before add/replace something ... Except for the return spring ... Replace with lighter and inspect at full throttle opening.

As for rotating back is not possible because of the dual plane .... The offy intake has separate primary and secondary lines which the carb has to follow.

You may want to look at a LOKAR throttle cable kit. This is a high quality cable and adaptable to most applications. available thru Summit racing,Jegs,Speedway Motors to name a few. I use that cable on two of my own vehicles. Cheers, Mike

Hi Mike,

thanks .. Will surely look into it .. Any particular LOKAR part no or kit name if you can recall ?

This kit should work for you.

Lokar TC-1000HT comes in 24inch, 36 inch, 48 inch

Then can be trimmed to exact length needed. So if your on the border between two sizes get the longer one and cut to length needed.May have a little waste but better that then a cable you can't use. Mike
