Ive got a ? I have a T-18 4 spd I know that for a fact but I do not know which Transfer Case I have mounted to it. I cant see anything on it to tell me. I'm going to try and get a pic of it and post it. What are the possibilities that could be mounted on the T-18 . It doesn't have twin sticks, it doesnt even have a shifter really the PO had what it looks like a file mounted to engage it as the shifter. It looks like it engages the 4wd just by pulling back on the shifter. If thats the case, would it have a 4wd low in one spot and then high in another or do you engage the 4wd and you have 4wd?

Vick68, here is a photo of a Dana 300 TCase installed. Take a look beneath your machine and see if you can spot all the plates, bolt patterns, and stuff sticking out to confirm or eliminate your Jeep has a Dan300. Sorry 'bout the clutter around the Dana 300 . It fell on me once, so forever after I will rig a safety harness and wooden support. I trust luck over skill, else I'd have a busted collar bone.

The most likely is a Dana 20 with the "texas" bolt pattern where it mounts to the Transmission . The T-18 rear plate is about 1" thick that the Dana 20 bolts to.

The next choice would be a Dana 300 which has a round mounting area to the Transmission . I am assuming you have a centered rear diff.

My Dana 20 shift pattern is 4HI - 2HI - N - 2LO - 4LO . The 4HI is up or all the way toward the dash. The 4LO is all the way back. There is a 2LO notch, but it is not marked on the knob. The trick is to find neutral for a reference point and then one click forward for 2HI.

The most likely is a Dana20 with the "texas" bolt pattern where it mounts to the trans. The T18 rear plate is about 1" thick that the D20 bolts to.

The next choice would be a D300 which has a round mounting area to the trans. I am assuming you have a centered rear diff.

A Dana 300 behind a T18 in a CJ5 is problematic due to the short rear driveline the combo creates. The only real option if you want a Dana 300 in this case (a CJ5) would be to find a 1980 Scout version with the “Texas” bolt pattern (same as the Dana 20) which are rare and expensive if you can find one, as the adaptor for the T18 to a Jeep (round bolt pattern) Dana 300 is 3.2” long and costs about $500. In addition the Dana 300 is longer than the Dana 20 for 2”-3” more depending upon model year (1980 being the shortest). All this shortens the rear drive line by 5”-6”. You can get some of that back with the super short output shaft kit but there goes another $600 for the parts and even then the rear driveline will still be shorter than you have now. If this was a CJ7 you have the extra room for the boxes and adaptors but a CJ5 is just cutting it just too close in my opinion.

So most likely its a Dana 20 . Tomorrow I'm hope to look at it better. Maybe clean it off a lil bit. I got to try and find a shifter for it now.

The Dana 20 is a strong case and you already own it. Shifters can be had, check Craigs List.
