- 1979 Jeep CJ7 TH400 Automatic 258 I6 Quadratrac Amc 20 rear & Dana 30 front, 32 x 11.5 x 15 tires. Currently a Complete Custom Rebuild in progress.
Also I own a 2001 Jeep Cherokee, White, all stock with 4.0L. automatic, and police package. Best part of that is it came with leather seats! This package also has the NP242 Transfer Case, 8.25 rear end, and trailer towing package.
I think the real question here is Transfer Case . What TC are you planning on using. Will you need an adapter for that? Adapters are not cheap. If you put a Chevy manual Transmission in it, are you putting a Chevy TC in it? Will all of that fit? Will you axle be ok with that set up? Although you only plan pavement driving, what size and type of tire will you be using? All of the things play a part in you ultimate goal and should be considered.

Why not a SBF?
The advantages are: The ford bellhousing will bolt up to the T-176 . You can use the same radiator. It is already wired for the ford starter solenoid. The narrow block helps exhaust routing in a narrow frame CJ when the motor is off-set 1.5 inches to the drivers side. The distributor is in the front.

Sorry, i havent had time to get back on here.. Ok, i have a Dana 300 , it and the T-176 came in the jeep when I bought it along with a wore out AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . I was looking for a replacement for the 4.2, when a friend told me he had a chevy 350 he wasnt going to use so I ended up with it. It will bolt up to the t176 with some conversion parts, but I after searching on here I saw some mention of a chevy Transmission (s) that bolt up to the 350. The adapter would be needed for the trans to tc, so I dont know which is a better way to go. I know will have to upgrade a bunch of parts along the way. I have 32" tires now, on my stock AMC20 ....
