If you can ID my Transmission I'd appreciate it. It's my first restore. I'm learning. See attached pics. Thanks to anyone who can help a rookie.

That looks like a T-176 , although I didn't think they came in a five speed. Tremec T176 | Tech Vault | Advance Adapters

here is the other site I used to identify the Transmission when I went to buy another one Woody's 4x4 | Transmissions

The difference on site of the T-176 and T-5 ... T-176 has a bolt on butterfly pattern, the stick has a single bend, to the rear, the stick comes out of the middle of the tranny. T-5 /T-4 has two bends in stick, the stick originates from the rear of the tranny.

I agree, looks like a T-176 . I see what looks like the backup light switch in the 2nd pic behind the rag, which would point to T-176 . The T-5 backup light switch is on the driver's side of the Transmission . T-176 it's on top like the one pictured.

Everything else says T-176 to me too, but that's kinda the deal sealer.

OP. when you say 5 speed, do you mean 4 forward/ 1 reverse?

That's not a T-5 .

Hey, thanks for sharing what you know. Boot will be ordered. Now, I have to put the engine back together.......with the scattered parts I have in a plastic tub. Any recommendations for a good starter?

I use autozone starters and alternators. They're cheap, they work, and they have a lifetime free replacement, and since they're easy to take replace, and I have a spare of each in the shop, I'm good to go.

Now were I taking my Jeep way out in the wilderness, I'd get a new NAPA or mean green etc, but since mine are normally within 20 miles of the house, I got cheap ones with a good warranty. Actually so far they've held up great. but I could have just gotten lucky.
