I believe AMC started putting the T-4 and 5 in the CJs starting in 80. These are a lightweight car Transmission and not the best trans for a jeep. I wouldn't waste my money on one. I would look for a more robust trans.

That looks like a T-176 to me.

Yes, was an option during those years. If your looking to upgrade that's a good choice. As cglax6 mentioned check Novak Conversions they are a wealth of knowledge on jeeps.

Slightly better first gear than the T-176 . Definitely a keeper if it's in good shape.

I'll take my T-18 over anything else, though!
