I'm with Lumpy on this one - Clean her up and run her.... Do check your rod and main bearings for sure. I went thru my AMC 304 and the oil pump had scored the end plate pretty good, and bottom end oil pressure was toast. That scored the rod and main bearings, but luckily the crank and rod journals were fine. Added new bearings, new stainless oil pump intermediate plate, and buttoned her back up with all new gaskets and seals. My top end looked good, so I never removed my heads. Also - when I first opened the engine up, it was spotless - I had zero sludge or buildup.
Use the plasti-gage like Lumpy said and you should be good to go.
