I recently bought a 75 CJ5 . The vin # shows it's a 76. However when i ordered parking light and they didn't fit, it took the 75 lights. I'm waiting for paperwork to arrive, in meantime i can't do anything without knowing true year any ideas on why plate says 76 but 75 parts are the ones that fit. Thanks

When Jeep transitioned from 75 to 76, many skewed year CJs were born.

Do us a favor, look at your frame and let us know if it is completely boxed or just the internal and external rails...

I am pretty sure the frame rails on a 75 are completely parallel from front to back. The 76 and up flared out a little wider just behind the door area. Also the inner rails are fully boxed inside the middle section. The 76 leaf springs are wider as well. The 76 went to the model 20 rear end but you could still have the odler Dana 44 in there.

Rails parallel?

What does the VIN plate on the tub say? Drivers side under the hood.

Maybe the PO put a 75 tub on a 76 frame? It can be done but looks cobbled at the body mounts.

Pics would help here to be positive.

There were lots of other changes as well between 76 & 75.

Wouldn't be the first time parts books were wrong.
