1974 CJ5, 4.0L stroker from a 91 XJ,T-18 w/ granny gear, Dana 300 w/ Lomax 4:1 gears.
I have decoded the VIN and it lines up with what I have in the Jeep. I am trying to determine the interior colors and exterior color.

This is what the VIN plate looks like.

G500139 G4000
VDO 999 498
J4F83FTE27983 8300

Interestingly enough there were two brass plaques on the dash. One was a parts list that described the drivetrain and and its capacities. The other gives a lot of info on delivery dates, warrantee info and says United States Property.

I would post pics but seeing the info is very difficult and wouldn't help. I am curious about this jeep and finally have the time to start asking these questions.

Thank you in advance.

Without looking the vin up I'm going to say that you may have a military M38A1.

I discovered that the number "498" is Bucket seats, Buff, vinyl. I am not sure what the paint code is but I will keep searching. So, from what I can gather 8300 is the model number. Looks like the paint option is special order "999". Do you think a Jeep dealership might have info I am looking for?

My Ren2 was 999 as well.
Info would have been sent out in Service Bulletin form.
Green or blue colored 8 x 11 sheets, titled TSB or similar
You'll need to find the correct Service Bulletin with the year, make, model of what you're looking for. Slim chance finding one.
Have you tried pulling the dash and take a look see, best chance of finding a match.
My 999 color was Riverside Orange, but there were a few different matches for the 999 code.
83 = model

Pulling the dash reveals baby blue.

There is a stock Jet Set Blue, but if you want the original color you will have to do a match to the blue you found.

The Jetset Blue looks to be to dark.

It is hard to see but this blue is a light blue or baby blue.

As I mentioned, to find your original color (999) you will have to find the correct Service Bulletin with the year, make, model of what you're looking for. Or take a photo or chip from under the cowl have a company such as DuPont match the color.

Check paintref.com

It looks like they have most models build tag paint codes decoded, they also have the paint color code from several manufacturers of the paint in order to restore to original color.
