Yesterday was a "why the he_ _ did I buy this thing" day. Started out I was going to grease her, then try to get the water temp & fuel gauge working. Couldn't get on some of the yoke fittings, then couldn't find my test light. Then I tried to get behind the dash. Yeah right. Then I was going to bleed the front brakes. PO told me master cylinder was low & he filed it before I picked it up. Rounded off the bleeder on the drive's side. Off to Pep Boys for test light, Jeep ky ring, manual, brake bleeder screws and adapters for my grease gun. Got back & Pam, (wife), started checking the Jeep out. She says "I need side steps" to get in. I said " find the ones ya want". Then she says " What's running down the firewall". I check & it's brake fluid. I look on the inside & there's brake fluid there also. Took me 4 hrs to get it off. Dam_ cotter pin. I have ordered the master cylinder & removed the caliper to get the bleeder screw out.

sounds like a normal day in the JEEP world. most any vehicle sitting for a length of time will experience minor problems like those. As you drive it, others will pop up and some will go away on their own.
Just remember:

when we got our jeep we spent about 2 months on the brakes. this was working on it on the weekends in a field. had to do the master all the way back. everything.

It won't take long to get your problems sorted out and then you will be enjoying the hell out of the CJ. The best thing is, when you get it going - they usually stay going... They are about bullet proof when you don't play desert racer with them and even when they do brake they are easy to get running again.

I believe I remember reading that you had said in a previous post that you had always wanted a CJ, if you had that feeling for a long time and it never left - I bet you are going to be hooked for life! Wait until your out in the woods with the top off and going places you never dreamed of! You won't be able to wipe that smile off of your face in a lifetime! :)

Trust me - everyone here will say the exact same thing! We are all lifers!

Ahhhhhhh...the good old days.:chug: Here's where I think most jeep people go wrong. They try to "repair" rather than rebuild, and start patching up stuff, which just leads to another problem. When something on an old Jeep gives up the ghost, It's best to gut the whole offending system (like the brakes) end to end, and just make it new. Chances are you will not have to revisit that problem again, and it will be cheaper in cost and grief! Then move onto the next issue as it comes up. Before long, you will have a completely reliable Jeep. Like CJ said, once their put back to correct, their pretty damn reliable and hearty as a rule.

Yep...whenever mine breaks, I figure out what the upgrade would be and if I can afford it, it gets the upgrade/improvement.
For example,
I broke the rear axle spider gears during one race I did. Seized the axle long enough to spin the driveshaft in half. So I'm down 1 set of spiders and a driveshaft. Looked into the options, and ended up welding the spiders together (lincoln-locked 'em) and replacing the driveshaft tube with .750 DOM steel. At 19" long it wieghs about 50 Lbs :) I don't think it will go out again...

I started building mine and thought I will just get this thing up and running for spring, and then fix whatever breaks while I drive it. Started visiting this forum, and decided to tear the whole jeep down and rebuild or replace everything. Whatever I can't replace, will be gone through, rebuilt, resealed, cleaned, painted, and/or coated. Whatever it takes to make it as close to new or better. I want to get it done and just have to drive it. I want the wife to feel confident she can hop in it to go to the store if she feels like it.

That's the only real way to do it. It sucks at first not having it because It's all torn down, but in the end well worth it. I gut mine to the bone and did it right, and have just been ridin and enjoyin for 12 years since. It's just now getting a little worn in spots, so this spring it gets a little "tune up" like brakes, u joints, some steering components, and a little guage fixin. Once I get to it, it should only be a couple of weekends and then it's summer fun again!

 I joined a lot of jeep forums, but I visit this one the most. Are any of ya'll in Delaware? I'm lookin' forward to the heart break as I feel there's a great bunch of folks here & it won't take long to get my problems fixed. I want ya'll to know that I appreciate all the help I'm getting. Moma says sometimes I forget to thank because I'm wrapped up in the problem. My jeep won't be a hobby, it'll be a job until I get here the way I want her.
Thanks again guys!
