What did you do to or with your CJ today?
took it out for a drive. Got a rear brake hanging up on it.

Got a DUI distributor for the 360 today. The engine hasn't ben installed yet so the dist. wasn't installed. I'm still prepping the 360. Replacing broken or missing emissions parts, painting most of the parts I've touched like the throttle bracket, the power steering brackets, cleaned and installed the motor mounts from the AMC 304 on the 360 along with new rubber mounts. For the longest time I couldn't find the PCV valve and was sure it wasn't there. Wrong, the thing was small and looked like a vacuum line "T" in the wrong tubing. The tubing is corrected and it looks much better now. I hope to hear the engine run this weekend.

Do you have a matched set of gears? You'll want to ensure they are both hardened or both soft (same type of steel) and that they are both new or both old and have worn to each other...

Ask me how I know... :D:D

Did you use the D.U.I. distributor? Supposidly they are about the only ones that don't have the gear problem. At least that's the story out there.

Even with the positive reviews on the DUI gear I'm probably going to re-use the one on the stock distributor.

>>>OOOPS>>>> Just followed your link and read the posts. It looks like there were issues with your original timing gear set before the new dist. I will probably be sorry, but the motor is a fairly fresh prefessional rebuild and I hate to tear it back down. Without question I will look as closely as possible to see the condition of the timing gear and the existing distributor gear. For safety I deffinately will replace the DUI gear for the stock one so the existing set is kept together.

That should work

I know the gear on my DUI distributor was not the least bit messed up after i tore everything apart, and when you look like on summit racing, it shows gear material type and such too.

Now when I tried to replace the gears on my cam and distributor with aftermarket ones, I had issues. But can not remember if I actually tried my old distributor gear on the new DUI. You may have problems with fitment, but think it was just the Omix ADA "crud" i tried to use first.

Im not at all impressed with the Omix stuff either. I talked with my local Jeep guru and he said there should be no problem replacing the DUI gear with a stock gear. I hope not. At first the Team Rush conversion looked good. The same dist. the same gear, just some improved items on top. Then comes the need for the module and some wires and a harness and a coil. In the end it's more expensive than the DUI unit with only one wire to attach.

I bolted my fenders back on today (finally...) after narrowing the front axle. I also was looking over my wiring harness to see what I need to install it

In the middle of so much:

- Got the engine in and the mounts sorted out
- Put the headers on
- Rebuilt the battery box. the jeep didn't have the right battery box on it when I got it. Now I'm modifying it (this is a newer battery box, the older one like I have is different) to clear the heater hoses and one of the heater mounting bolts.
- The filter housing was put in place for a test fit.

Everybody likes pictures.

Motor in place, look at that blue. Got sick of trying to figure out AMC blue. I like "Old Ford Blue" and it's easy to find.

Installed new headlight wire harness made by jimbos76cj. An excellent upgrade.

Easy install, all plug an play. Took about 30 minutes

Installed my new replacement Warn locking hubs.
As some of you know I broke one a couple weeks ago.
I called Drivetrain America where I bought them to ask how to go
about getting them warrantied, They said to send them back to them
and they would take care of it. They emailed me a Fedex label so the
shipping was free. I sent them back on Tuesday and had the replacement ones on Saturday. Again they paid the shipping .
I can't say enough good things about Drivetrain America's customer service. :)

used it as a cutting horse. My appaloosa got into the hay field and didn't want to get caught. so why Dad maned the gate I headed out after her. Good thing it has PS and a quick ratio. Oh and my three heelers were sitting in there with me watching.

Drove to the top of engineer mountain and down corkscrew pass. Not in that order.

Amongst all the small stuff that needs to be done after an engine swap ... new wiring, painting stuff, hoses, belts, figuring out vacuum hoses, ..... I found there simply wasn't room to have my old AMC 304 sitting around the garage. Craigslist is a marvelous tool for finding people that need what you don't need anymore. So, I listed my engine for less than it is truly worth, priced to move as they say. It took 4 days to sell. This morning a happy Jeeper drove away with my AMC 304 in the back of his truck. This is just the kind of deal I like. He threw a rod on his AMC 304 , one of those spectacular failures you hear about where the rod left a BIG ol' gaping hole in an engine. He was sure his beloved Jeep was dead. My engine will now breath new life in his otherwise dead friend. A good day, I made a little money too. :)

Installed new fuel sending unit, pulled tires off(New tires going on tomorrow 35's) found more #@&% that needs fixing, installed new K&N chrome breather assembly, More items keep changing from the wish list to the have to have them now list (lift kit so the new tires will fit, this Friday, lockers front and rear since I have to change front and rear gears to turn such tires. etc.etc.etc!!!

Should I go all out and get a pair of Dana 60s?

With your tire size, and how often you trail ride on moderate to difficult trails, and how often you are alone, 60's may be the best choice... If I were you I'd get the upgraded axles for now, fix up your rig again, and slowly build / aquire the 60's for cheap long build vs quick take what you can get build (if that makes sense??) I'll bet even with the "wasted" axle purchase for the 30 that will be temp, you may save money over-all and less time with jeep down.
