What did you do to or with your CJ today?
Been working out some electrical problems, mostly wiring that didn't come with the Jeep. After a couple days work the Jeep now has, hazard lights, brake lights, turn signals, back up lights and a horn.

Stopped at the local Jeep place, Willy's Works, got some more parts. Can't help but laugh, there is a hole just above the steering wheel shaft on the dash and for the first time stumped Rob. He even looked at his used dash parts and was surprised to see the factory hole. To the parts book we went, Rob said he's never seen the hole before. The hole is for an after market idiot light for the brakes. He then looked in his parts bin and actually found two of them. I bet they were there way back when he bought the place. My price was $9.65. From the quality of the bayonet mounted light that was a very old price indeed. Then he came up with some heater cables for an intermediate Jeep, evidently they are now reproducing them. These parts along with some smalls from the used parts in the yard made for a GREAT day at the dealership. These old style parts dealers are getting hard to find. The future will not be the same without them.

More parts, a nice set of used axles this time. Nice and straight, great splines, cheap enough to get both sides. The drivers side was the worst, but both were bent some. The job was far easier than expected. Another job done.

Still working on the wipers, I think I may have worked out intermittent circuit but not done yet.

finally got it started again. left it sit two weeks and was a bear to start. Drove to dads for pry bars to work on wifes mini van. give me my jeep.

Electrical issues are kicking my butt right now. I get a system to work perfectly, 10 minutes later it doesn't. The original fuse box is evidently a mess. Hit and miss connections, why? On good things that came from this. I finally got a decent wire crimping tool. Months ago I got an expensive ratcheting crimper. It works... sometimes. After a search on this site I came across a thread about wiring. The actual thread might have been a link, but the author went over his experiences with wiring. The crimper he suggested is a big wire cutter looking thing, but not a wire cutter at all. It's a crimper extraordinaire. It will crimp small wire in an over size (not advised) terminal with ease, giving a very factory looking crimp. I have fallen in love with heat shrink water tight connections and will buy them over all else. I was buying the expensive little buggers at automotive supply stores. Yesterday I discovered, surprisingly enough H.F. has a nice selection of these, they are relatively inexpensive and they work very well. ......now to find resister wire.

If you look at the back of the fuse block you will see that the connections are made with a rivet/stud that holds a very small ring terminal. I think these get loose /dirty and cause the now you see it now you don't circuits. This was the problem with my brake light circuit and the real pain was that you always got 12V but it would not carry enough amperage to light the bulbs. Made it kind of interesting to find a problem. I ran a fused line from the battery to the brake switch and have not had another problem.:D

does day dreaming that I am home and actually get to see my Jeep count?

Finally got the rest of my brake parts cleaned up and 3 painted. The brake caliper bolt had been broken off in the hole and I worked on drilling it out. Still more work to be done on that but progress was made. 50 degree day so it was nice working in the garage.

Disconnected everything from the back of the instrument panel as part of my frame off. Took lots of pictures and labeled everything. Felt good to do something that did not involve computers.

It warmed up to +3 - so I drove it to the jeep to the car wash to get rid of the salt, then I drove to the Army and Navy club and bought some New Year eve ticket. Can't do much else as I bugger two fingers on my left hand in my Table saw doing trim work before Christmas :(. Next month its long over due for a full tune up.

Got my Transmission cross member bolted up to the frame finally. New aluminum radiator and wiring harness came in too. Still have a huge list of parts to get though

First off many thanks to those on this forum that took the time to post, allowing this old country boy to learn things I didn't know and to be entertained about things I already knew. The generosity of the members here have shown an impressive level of generosity. It has truly been a joy to give the occasional helping hand from time to time. For me and I'm sure many others, this forum has been great fun for 2013. Largely due to Rob at Willy's Works here in Tucson and the members on this forum my '75 CJ5 I ALMOST ready for the road. Today Jan. 31, 2013 I all but got a temp tag to take the CJ to emissions. Thank you all for the great CJ building year.

To day I had only one goal. Get the oil pressure gauge to work properly. A trip to Willy's Works showed that my original (it wasn't an original Jeep product) wasn't working properly, it worked, but not properly, so a new gauge was purchased, I can't poke Rob a Willy's Works, he showed me EXACTLY how to install the gauge. Naturally I put the 12v wire where the sender wire should have been and the sender wire where, well you understand ..... poooffff , brand new gauge destroyed. While at it I also changed the sending unit. Hey what's $30 or so between friends? The good news was with the working "but not accurate" old gauge, when hooked up properly, showed the new oil pressure sending unit is working. Minor Win for Me! Now for a new gauge. Now I have a Jeep that is close, VERY close to transforming from a driveway queen to a real working Jeep.

Annnd today the alternator fried itself. The question is "Why?"

nothing just got home from Savannah Ga for new years. Two blocks from beach on Tybee, dreamed of driving my jeep down the beach.

Checking to see if my rear brake line is long enough for my new YJ spring conversion that I put on my M38a1.
