What did you do to or with your CJ today?
Merry Christmas and happy new year to me!

What did I do with my Jeep today? Well, I drove it of course! :) This is the first time around the block in 6 months and I'm happy. The old girl needs some adjustment, but I'm happy.

Looked at mine sitting covered in snow and ice as I spent about an hour shoveling snow, god I love winter

got the shop cleaned out enough to put the CJ inside. dropped the soft top and put the new wiper motor in. hope to make it work tonight.

The plan is to "finish" a few of the past projects. Kind of like roll bar, seat and console, 2.0. then it is on to the Transmission /TC rebuild.:D

This was a first. One that has been a LONG time coming. I've driven the Jeep before, but it was more like a fun ride at the fair. Fun in a frightening sort of way that is. Today's ride was something different. There was no nervous chatter, no death grip on the wheel, non of the usual puckered "OH MY GOD" thoughts that generally follow me around when behind the wheel. The main thought going through my head was, "Self, this thing is ready to become a legal, road worthy part of the Arizona Scene." :)

Soon these writings will be about adventures of the non-mechanical variety and I'm more than ready for it.

Took the striped down AMC 304 engine block and heads to the machine shop. She was burning more oil than gas. (not really, but was going through a lot of oil) Going .040" over on the flat top pistons and a new Cam. Hopefully in two or three weeks She will be back on the road with new life and lots of power in her!!!:)

Dropped the gas tank w/o spilling any of the 4 gallons of gas that was still in it. Tried to get the steering wheel off but had the wrong kind of puller. Soaking in Aerokroil now. Put together my new HF engine hoist. Now that football is nearly over, I'll have more time to give it. Also tired of cold weather. It was 38 yesterday morning. Brrrr.

Got my brake parts painted and the front hubs cleaned up. Found out that one of the spindles is dinged up and one side of the axle shaft needs a u joint.

Almost the very last thing to do before putting "the Witch" on the road was to look at the front wheel bearings ........ and I have ........ OH my goodness the rust and completely disgusting piles of filthy grease ....... two sets of bearings, seals and what nots. The good news is, the spindles look good and the short drive shafts aren't twisted. So, the expensive parts are in acceptable condition. Mo Money, Mo Money, Mo Money ....... The trail will end at a good time though.

Sounds like you better check the spindle bearings while your there.

Old Dog - Exactly what my Jeep guy said, so off came the spindle. What did I find? A Torington bearing with all the bearings all catty whampus and warn flat on one side. Mo Money, Mo Money, Mo Money....... That's the bad. The good is while there is a bunch of rust on the spindle, there is no real damage to either the spindle or the drive axle. Now my Jeep will have completely new front bearings, seals and oh I forgot new hubs. Yep new Hubs. My old hubs were SuperWinch Hubs that had loose bearings, essentially they were warn out. "The Witch" now sports a set of good old Warn Deluxe Hubs. Nice solid hubs. "The Witch" and I took a little trip down the road, a real road. She smoked a bunch but seemed to clean itself out fairly quickly. Remember She's been doing little more than idling in the driveway for 6 months. She also doesn't like to turn while at speed.
