What did you do to or with your CJ today?
Finished welding and priming my cage. Added the final cross braces and a grab handle and then one coat of rustoleum bed liner spray. Another tomorrow and then onto cleaning up the dash.

All I can think of with the cage out and the windscreen down is those old videos of the jeep testing where they are voicing through the whoopsie does!

Love the look of a CJ without a roll cage or sport bar. But we aren't in the 1960's anymore, so Wooly !!!! nicely done.

There was some whistle still left coming from the throttle body. Applied a light rough coating of permatex to the edge of the IAC port and the backside of the throttle body plate to create some turbulence across the edge. Whistle is gone.

Moved the CPS slightly to fool the PCM and retard the timing which got rid of the slight ping I had.

Replaced my light switch and my oem light setup shined brighter. (I know, some day I will relay or LED)

No whistle, no ping and I could see. It was a great drive into work this morning!!

Worked on my new dash. Was pulling my hair out because I welded up a couple holes and warped the side to the left of the steering wheel. I tried several techniques including heat shrinking. It isn't horrible, but it isn't right either. So, while showering a solution hit me. If I can't straighten the warbled area out, CUT IT OUT! Can anybody say, glove compartment! Yep, I got a used Glove compartment door, cut it down and reshaped it, then cut out an opening. The door is small, 7.25"x 4.75", it will have the stock factory button/latch. There is plenty of room behind for a deep box, actually with no heater core to worry about there is a lot more depth than the factory right hand glove box. I like how it turned out and it will be handy for the necessary items in life, ammunition, a hand gun, paper work an note pad, sun glasses. Now I have to cut and weld up a new glove box. .... :) more metal working fun.

That was a great idea Hedge. Anytime you can find more useful space in a Cj is a win. Look forward to the pics when it's done.

Nice work wooly worm. I should at the paint stage by this weekend.

The CJ dash is coming along. Due to metal warping around some holes, I need to use filler on it. Unfortunately it is god awful hot lately so Bondo work is slow. I've got to wait until it cools down at night, to hot and the stuff sets RIGHT NOW. So, it's spread Bondo, wait, sand darned near all of it off, flash paint, sand to find low spots, repeat, small areas at a time.

Got a set of Rotors for the disk brake front end. Fairly quickly I won't have any excuses, then the old front will come off. The power brakes make me nervous.

:( .... seems kinda quiet around here

Looking good! :chug:

Have you run your Bikini top with your new cage yet? I love how much quieter it is with the center support and the sides pushing up on the canvas.

5dbb82c4ae2f8aff5c49187779d96bef.webpI only have a full soft top but still get the same benefit you describe. It also keeps the top frame bars from rattling around as well. My plan is to get a square of canvas and have a bunch of eyelets added so that I can attach that to the cage on four sides for shade and still be able to put down the windshield. Or maybe some mesh fabric or even expanded metal attached with small bolts for partial shade and protection from falling beaches etc from squeezing through the Maine woods. Could even have a solid aluminum top made that way as well.

Just a "heads up" on metal tops in the northeast. When branches fall it scares the :dung: out of you when it hits the metal top. That is all.

Another thing about a metal cap like you are thing of. It might rumble or oil can. That is why duct work had the "X" crease in long sections. If it is bent or shaped and made of 14 or heavier gauge metal you might get away with it.

I made my extra glove compartment glove box. It turned out well, unfortunately I fear that it's going to be too big/deep. I thought I'd looked for obstacle's, but the pedal bracket might hit the box. !!!!!Errrrrrr!

Great point HH thanks - that'd drive me nuts!

I drilled holes into my replacement frame for the taller shock towers used in my 84 (this is a frame from an 81)

Now I need to get the eastwood stuff to seal the inside of the frame and paint the outside. The. It will be time to buy fuel and brake lines.

Finished up the tarp/rigging for shelter for my planned trip across Pa using only dirt roads. It's a challenge creating shelter with your CJ when all you have to work with is a soft top!

Replaced a tail light that my friends son tore off trying to step on it. Now I've got a reverse light that I can wire up. Still have to put the matching tail light on the other side but at least I have tail/stop/turn working again.
