What did you do to or with your CJ today?
Looked at it in the driveway and sighed...

With all my Speedhut gauges in hand all the holes for the gauges, switches and power ports in my replacement dash with removable gauge cluster panel were opened up. Couldn't help myself, so all the gauges were temporarily mounted. Must admit to being pleased with the look.

When the dash is finished there will be pictures. This is a picture of the dash right after sand blasting and welding up a few PO drill holes. You can see where the gauge panel will be mounted.

Today while waiting at a stoplight, a scantily clad woman - loitering at the intersection, in a down-scale business district - a woman of indeterminate age possibly employed in an illicit occupation asked me if she could have a ride around the block in my "totally awesome Jeep. No charge."

Mercifully, the light turned green before I had to break her heart (which is made of gold, I'm sure). :)

Are you sure it was a woman?

:D

Are you sure it was a woman?

Given that gender, lately, is more a matter of opinion than genetics or appearance, no I'm not sure. :)

Had a tube put in one of my swampers because of a torn bead not sealing up. Anyone run tubes at low pressure off road and regular pressure on road?

Wooly

Tubes hate low pressure, they pull and stretch, eventually tearing. .... at least that was my experience.

I would think on road would be fine. I would be concerned with pinching the tube at low air pressure going over sharp rock edges. If you have a decent spare run the tube and see how it acts. Or use the tubed tire as a spare

I've got 4 ATs that I DD and run the LTBs off road. I swap one if the extras for the spare back and forth. I'll let y'all know how it goes

Re-packed bearings, rotated tires and tightened manifolds. Hopefully my minor whistle is gone.

I had a whistle. Mine was worn gasket at the base of the carb.

I tightened the throttle body as well. Hopefully it's one of them. I really don't feel like replacing the manifold gasket. Going for a long drive in the morning which should be a good test....on my nerves.

Else I have injectors ready for install which is my next guess.

Maybe some permatex goopy stuff around the seams would work for now?

Temp fix? Love it! Which one are you referring to?

Whistle is still there but not as pronounced so have a handle on the cause. Wanting to get steering coupling done first. Think I'll replace the injectors regardless. Now need to get home after about a 5 hour cruise.

The suspension squeek I've never been able to resolve and the whistle from the engine are driving me nuts.

Thinking about the other repairs needed like a rebuild of the tranny, misc little items and paying for new tires especially when our other two vehicles need the same, has me depressed and I'm thinking very strongly about selling IT.

I my opinion, those whistles are caused by a vacuum leak somewhere in the vicinity of the throttle body. I recently had to deal with this and tightening down the t.b. helped, so I replaced its gasket to be sure. Actually I made a bunch of them to use as spares. A leaking exhaust manifold makes a different kind of noise.

Got it stuck pretty good :)
