What did you do to or with your CJ today?
5dbb82c4ae2f8aff5c49187779d96bef.webpI only have a full soft top but still get the same benefit you describe. It also keeps the top frame bars from rattling around as well. My plan is to get a square of canvas and have a bunch of eyelets added so that I can attach that to the cage on four sides for shade and still be able to put down the windshield. Or maybe some mesh fabric or even expanded metal attached with small bolts for partial shade and protection from falling beaches etc from squeezing through the Maine woods. Could even have a solid aluminum top made that way as well.

I think this is perforated rather than expanded, just for the record. I also would bet lunch this would whistle at speeds greater than 20 MPH. that could result in some craziness.

Yes, perf is correct but it illustrates the idea. Yes - good point in the whistling. Hmmmmm.

We had a windstorm that knocked out power over most of Seattle proper and much need rain dumped on us in buckets. I didn't put the soft top windows and doors back on the CJ before the storm. Not having a garage meant the CJ remained in the elements.

I have sand bags in the back of the Jeep which are likely soaked, but I've been going through some things that have had me paralyzed for the last few days.

Today I just looked at the CJ, thinking I need to get the wet sand bags out of the back, just forward of the tail gate, but I've yet to move all the stuff in the way to get 'em out before the water collected does some damage.

Maybe this post will motivate me to do what needs to be done.

Good luck getting motivated, many times life can prevent you from things like that. I am quite suprised that the NE has dried out as much as it has recently.

JD - Man I know what you mean. There have been a few days lately that I couldn't force myself out of the house. Sometimes life just sucks that bad. But, there's always something that gets me back on track. Saturday I jumped in the CJ, she didn't have her bikini top on, we were going commando of sorts. Naturally it started raining. Not a lot, but the drops were the size of golf balls. Had some fun getting wet. :) Unlike other parts of the country, down here in the desert rain can be fun sometimes. Sunday I put the bikini top back on. It has been humid and miserable lately.

Yeah, but it's a dry humidity.

Thanks, Hedgehog.

I got the soaked sand bags out. I guess the post worked :)

Tomorrow I voluntarily end 15 years at a company.

I'm trying to decide of it's the end of a 28 year career, just some time off or the start of a different career path.

In the morning, I'll take the CJ into work one last time, turn parking permit, phone and security badge.

For now, I'm just adrift.

Good for you!
Congratulations on your new freedom.

JD - What line of work were/are you in? Last I heard your pat of the country was booming, at least compared to the rest of the country.

Sold two sets of tires and wheels and turned them into a new set of these in 285/75r16 flavor :)d05e69fe53e0f5d5c12b4c12de3ceb60.webp

Let's see them on the Jeep Wooly!

:chug:

Put the second tail light on and wired up the reverse lights. Right now they are just wired to a switch on the dash. At some point I'll get the Transmission switch put in.

I like the black wheels and style. Been debating about painting my black for some time.

I worked for a hardware/software manufacturer.

Back in 2000 I signed a piece of paper saying I wouldn't mention that I work/worked for them by name on any BBS, usenet, AOL, (you get the idea) etc.

Unless you're in tech, you've probably never heard of the company. I think we took out an ad in the Wall Street Journal once in 15 years but other than that, there's been no media marketing like commercials during broadcast sporting events or prime time television; just trade show participation.

Anyway, I was a field engineer for 10 years deploying gahzillion dollar network and security solutions for banks with a global foot print, large drug manufacturers, three letter shipping companies, petroleum producers.. heck, just about every company on the S&P 500 list.... oh, and I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the porn sites before the dot com implosion. No, I never saw porn being filmed. I just deployed gear in giant computer rooms called data centers to assure the sites were always "up" and ready to take money.

I did this on 5 continents, maybe 30 countries, probably about 450 customers.

I left the field for program management and they retired my program after 5 years,

Not wanting to go into "keeping the lights on" IT operations again, and not wanting to go back into the field, it seemed like a good time to take a break, recharge and figure out what's gonna make me happy besides keeping my CJ operational.

I can't retire yet. Every month w/o work means putting off retirement another month or two... but I can afford to take a break. I needed to get out.

Happily, last night was the first night in as long as I can remember that I didn't dream about configuring gear or frantically troubleshooting network traffic failures and re-configuring gear to compensate for environmental issues while some guy in a suit yelled at me for how much it was costing his department or company.

Don't miss that one bit.

PS: Today I pat the CJ on the hood and hopped a bus down town to report for Jury Duty.

My wiper motor started working again recently so I finally installed the set of wiper arms and blades I bought from Willy's Works in Arizona. Now I have a working set of wipers and just have to figure out what wiring is wrong that made it stop working and now only works in one speed.

Thank you for giving Rob a chance to help you out. Were you in town (Tucson)?

Yeah, I was there in the spring and picked up a few small things I could easily bring home. Just never got them installed since the wiper motor quit working.

My in-laws have a house north of Tucson and I was there on vacation.
