What did you do to or with your CJ today?
Nothing major. Rotated tires and got under the front to see if I had anything loose. Recently getting a vibration at 35+ mph when I accelerate. And I have had a shake at 65-70 that I think is related to either needing an alignment or unbalanced tires. I will test it out on my commute tomorrow. I have done the driveway alignment a couple of times. But the shake is still not gone.

I got to order the last parts to finish building my NV4500. Since I have access to a lathe I also had an opportunity to fab up an adapter ring to adapt my early low gear Transmission to the later model bell housing so I will have to ability to swap Transmission in the future

gr8dain - check out getting them balanced. If you wheel at all, (and sometimes just our tire types) the weights come off and it will matter...

Also check the u-joints on the driveshaft for wear, and grease them...

Yeah. Thanks. All things pointing to u-joints. I will check them for play this weekend. And probably get new ones.

Any suggestions on good u-joints? These were new last April

You may drive your much more than me, but seems should have lasted longer than that... Did you use Dana Spicers? At one time they were top of the line, not sure anything really is anymore lol.

Check your driveshaft angles though too if you wear out u-joints quickly.

I get the greasable ones... in my CV style (Dual cardian or whatever) driveshaft, the greasable ones have pin-valves (not sure technical name) that uses the needle attachment on the grease gun, but they're still greasable.

I only use Dana-Spicer U-joints.
Ck your slip splines for slop & play.
When were these tires balanced? I would have the balanced checked before looking at the U-joints?

I can't remember what u-joints they are. I can look at the box when I get home.

The tires were balanced in 2010 when I got the tires. ;). I did not see any spots where weights came off, but I am not saying they are still in balance. Many miles have been put on them.

lol - yes check tires out, though tire shops may not balance if that old - liabilities (at least in stupid sue-happy California)

You should be ok on the date code for service on the tires. I think the Federal recommendation is 8 years. Most places offer lifetime balancing for a good reason. They change with wear and need balanced every few years.
Ditto on the spicer u-joints .Only ones I will use. Six States has them in stock (even those little V-6 front u joints) Good luck, mike

At work I was tasked to make some Challenge coins for the bosses to give for instant recognition for exceptional customer service. I enjoyed doing the work, making the necessary contacts and seeing how much it pleased those that were recognized. I've been thinking about making them for the CJ community, but while not as expensive as you'd think per coin, they needed to be purchased in bulk so in the end they weren't cheap for an individual to purchase. I'm still thinking about t though. If done right the badges would be cool.

Over the years I've gotten a few of those coins from work and they are pretty cool. They are probably made in China but they do mean something. HH if you ever do make something I would be very grateful and honored to have one :chug:

Yeah, I know where they are actually made. That part of it bothers me some, but the American companys that I have used get to pay their American employees from the sale. Sure it's not equal, but at least it's something. The problem isn't really the labor, it's the environmental laws that make industrial size plating very difficult/expensive here in the USA.

I've been thinking. Maybe "WAR RATED" wouldn't be appropriate, maybe "Service Rated" or "Military Rated". Since the CJ is actually a Civilian version of the MJ or Military Jeep the proper wording would be difficult.

"CJ - Rooted in Service."
"Battle Tested"
"Refined in Service"

Just spitballin....

Spitballing pretty damb well I believe :chug:

Nice replies. I like'em. Thanks guys.

What I believe would happen if I said something military related about the humble CJ being a Civilian Jeep, I would be trolled to death on the difference between a CJ and an MJ. I've got at least one troll out there that likes nothing better than to stick me with a "Gotcha".

As they like to say around these parts " Yeah you right " about that:chug:

CJ - Wish you had one?

Or how about CJ - Wish you had one? Think you are up for the challenge? I think the "Battle Tested-Refined in Service " wins though

How's about '#1 U.S.A. Family Rated' ?

We're obviously gonna need a couple different versions. One's not gonna cut it :chug:
