Replaced the worn out flywheel gear ring on my '78 CJ5 AMC 304 . Only took 8 hours, 4 hours to get the flywheel ring back on the fly wheel, 4 to get the Transmission in and out... BUT IT'S DONE!

Prob. wrong spot to post this, but cool thread regardless. Got the new/used 84 CJ7 home. Has the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . Had a sp. plug wire arcing. So go to get new wires and other tune up parts.. Every parts place (Napa, Kragen etc.) I go to have the same length wires, but different brand names. None work! My dist. cap is next to the CENTER of the valve cover, so I need two 16" wires to reach the the plugs on each furthest end of the motor. All these plug wire kits so far have only one 16" wire and all the others are shorter. So no matter how I mix and match them, I come up with one wire that wont reach. Anyone else here ran into this problem? Think I just need to find another straight six app. with longer wires. Don't want to do the speed shop thing where you cut and fit your wires. too darn expensive. Thanks!!

Jeff

made a valiant but futile attempt to finish the dash wiring and put the dash and wheel back on. The new mechanical oil pressure gauge has a bit of a conflict with the defrost duct. It is a thermo plastic so heating it with a heat gun makes it pliable enough to get most of it out of the way but still had to trim the gauge mounting hard ware a bit. everything went well until old butter fingers dropped the gauge on the shop floor, It did not bounce and now it seems to think I have 10 PSI oil pressure all the time.
:dung:.
There goes $50 down the drain.

Here you go. Magnecor Race Wires
Call Magnecor, and ask for Steve. they offer anywhere from stock to race wires. They fit perfectly, and they can custom make you a set, he made mine and shipped in one day. Unless you physically damage a wire, they should last just about for ever..Also, If you do damage a wire, they'll make you a new one and ship it right out.

Picked up steering linkage Sat. for a great deal,it's made by M.O.R.E. with heims joints and a drop arm already drilled. So got the front brakes calipers replaced, new lines, and steering in.

I've got a T-18 6:32 first gear and a Scout TC146 Dana 300 with JB twin sticks. I added 4" to the (rear axle) shifter so now i can grab 2WD low real quick.

Installed home made Hi-Lift Jack mount on the rear of my roll-bar that works great. Will post pics as soon as I can. Getting ready for some wheeling first thing in the morning with our Meetup group Colorado Jeep People:grinjeep:

I started a rust repair yesterday and worked on it a little today.

Drove it all over holy hell today, and ordered a new interior for the poor thing

I took my CJ into the mountains. The first trail I went on wasn't yet traveled. I had to cut a tree that fell across the trail. Then as I got into higher altitudes there were snow drifts across the trail. Usually they weren't any problem if I kept up my momentum. Then I came to this one that was harder than the others. I gave it gas as I approached it and the front end went airborne and plopped into the snow. I was stuck. I tried giving it a little gas but it was obvious the only direction my tires would go was down.

Not sure if you can tell from the picture but my front tires don't have any tracks at all. They just fell from the sky into their present location. So out came the winch.
After pulling myself free I was able to do a little exploring. I camped for the night near Animas Forks Ghost town.

Fantastic piks dave, thanks for sharing. Some of us have to live our old Jeepin days through people like you, that still have beautiful places to explore.
Great Pics Dave
Shame we don't have anywhere like that over here we can drive. most of our "public ways " are being shut done for drivers.

In the state where I live, going off road is basically illegal, and will net you a hefty fine. Even though we have thousands of acres of "public land" we're not allowed to ride on it. Our government is completely out of control in every concieveable way. I have seen my freedom to hunt, fish, and explore the off road, crumble right before my eyes.

We Jeeped up to Caribou City, Idaho.
A ghost gold mining town from the early 1900s.
Supposedly the largest town in Idaho at the time.
Rosy drove well, never faltered, thank you gal.:notworthy:
Rosy's the Jeep. :)

We are all counting on you to hold your own in that rover crowd.
