Nice work and nice toolbox. I really like the color you are going with on Jeeps, it just seems to go well on them. You are really getting things done.

Thank you, and I appreciate the comments.

I had a full day of commitments yesterday but I was able to sneak in a little time on the 3B

Edit: Yesterday was the last day I'll work on my 3B before I leave for CO early Wednesday morning. I didn't reach my goal of finishing this project in 5 weeks although it wasn't for lack of trying. I could point to the unexpected gazillion holes I had to fill but at the end of the day I just didn't get it done. What was left to do to finish, install seats, couple gauges, heater controls, and paint the windshield and hood.

No worries, I have 1 week to finish it when I get back, I have a planned wheeling event September 7 & 8. Thanks for watching.

It can happen! Next Saturday take a right out of Silverton and head northeast until you come upon the Atlantic Ocean. I'll be waiting for you! Three days of wheeling and dry camping at the best wheeling location in New England.

Posi I'm curious what you mean by dry camping ? I've done a lot of camping in my life and done some camping in west Texas in the Big Bend area which is out In the mountain desert and even in the winter is a pretty dry area. Seams like the northeast is getting a lot of rain up that way

Before he answers I'm gonna take a SWAG at it....... it's either:

1 - No water available other than what you bring in with you,

or

2 - all bedwetters are invited to stay home.

Wow. Did that yourself? I bet that was an interesting process, unless you are the hulk and can just grab it with one hand and lift it. I can’t even fathom being able to do it without creating a complex system of pulleys. Or a forklift.

It was a solo effort, did it with two saw horses, 2 2x6 8ft long and two floor jacks. It took a while.

Managed to get the steering column squared away, new ignition switch, lock cylinder, rack and sector gear. Timing the sector gear threw me at first but then once I studied the situation it made perfect sense.

Installed the replacement fuel tank and found why the fuel gage did not work. P.O. had drilled through the sending unit and ran two wires to an electric fuel pump. Needed to get that tank installed so I kept the setup but wired in safety to stop the pump in the event of an accident.

Missy P rents a place in El Paso and there is no shop for me to work in so I try to get all the repairs done and cleaned up daily so as not to attract the attention of the apt manager or iritate the other renters.

Got back to our place in Albuquerque and began picking up the shop in preparation to build a CBX engine. Today Missy calls and the little beast puked it's antifreeze out.

Well to be honest I knew the water pump was going out since it makes a bit of noise when first started up. I was just hopefully it would hold up until I got the CJ home in the shop where I have an abundance of tools.

Tuesday I head down to El Paso and will change out the water pump; got my fingers crossed that the timing cover is in good shape. Once I get the beast to Albuquerque I'll really dive in and look at the cam gear, oil pump and distributor gear. Might just replace the timing chain and gears to.

CJ5 ownership is everything I expected of a 42 year old piece of history and I really do like wrenching on it. Missy P works a high risk/ high stress job and the little beast is her stress release; she always has a big smile on her face when driving it so it;s all worth the effort and cost. Can we write this off under medical expenses, LOL.

Got up at 0500 and rode down to El Paso. Had the water pump out by 1130. The front cover was in great shape! I got lucky here I think.

Gotta say I love this Jeep Forum, I researched the water pump here and got the information I needed that would have otherwise been learned the hard way.

I was able to pack only the tools I needed to get the job done. Since I ride a motorcycle 99% of the time weight and space are at a premium and the knowledge from the forums allowed me to pack only what was needed.

As predicated by many; the replacement pump had feeler gauge clearance between it and the harmonic balancer and I shaved some metal off with a file.

Replaced heater hoses, alt belt and fan belt while I was under the hood.
