What did you do to or with your CJ today?
Replaced my battery tray today. It was one of the easiest jobs i've ever done on my Jeep. Since my old tray was rusted to hell, I was expecting another one of my windshield hinge torx-bolt disasters, but they unscrewed like butter.

Also grounded the hell out of my CJ. Adding 2 gauge cable coming from the -battery post to the frame & block.

Decided to change my lower radiator hose because it was weeping through the hose. That simple chore opened a can of worms, radiator lower hose tube was rotted and covered by JB weld and silver paint which came apart when the hose was removed. Called Speedway motors and had a new Griffin Al rad delivered which was direct replacement for the old one, except the lower hose tube was slightly angled inward (needed a new hose anyway). Talked to the folks at my local Advanced auto who let me roam around in their backroom hose section and found a suitable replacement. So it was it goes when working on the CJ, never a dull moment.

So awesome I got to drive mine today, took it to work and on the way home broke my seat adapter that I haven’t finished building yet..... lol that makes the corners a lot more interesting

New battery cables this morning, 02 gauge. Got them from Battery Cables USA and i'm very happy with the quality. Also new terminal adapters they call Military Ord style, and changed the engine grounding point from the bell housing bolt to the actual block which i think made a good difference.

You can see where the ground to frame strap and the battery cable bolt to the engine block at the bottom left of the fuel pump.

JC-Sleeve that metal battery strap in a hose-;)

Hook your main battery GND(-) to the top mounting bolt on the starter motor.

Since i don’t want to put any more $$ into the old and tired AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l , I went and bought a 4.0 for a swap to be done soon. I thought about a v8 (AMC 304 or 360) or even an LS, but I need it back on the road and I think the 4.0 will be the quickest way to get there. It has the motor, the aw4 and the transfer caee, but I will use the Dana 300 with the 4-1 and twin stick that I had just installed.

Nice looking setup! I'm jealous how clean and organized your battery is. Mine is a bundle of wires. :)
One question. Where on the frame did you mount the grounding strap? I can see one end connected to the block, but not the other end. Thanks!

LG, that strap will eventually become a 02 cable and the main batt ground was one bolt above the starter on the bell housing but I like the thought of it being on the starter bolt itself. Have to wait for it to cool down again...

jzak, the other end is bolted on a motor mount bolt on the underside of that mount in the picture, you just have to be under the jeep to see it. I filed the nut and washer and wire brushed the frame where it mounts to make a good clean contact. You should have seen it all when I first installed the MSD and electric fan - wires everywhere. Took a few hours to get everything ran in the main looms in those plastic cover things and routed together to look good. Under the battery by the MSD box I still have some of the MSD wires that I didn't want to cut short so I rolled them and zip tied them as neatly as I could.

Go with 4/0 arc-welding cable. :chug:
And put it on the starters mounting bolt..............
Trust me on this.

CONGRATS!! You will find it amazing how quickly you’ll forget just how long it took to get here. I will admit - took me about three days to quit watching for LEO’s...... which did lower the excitement level about a half a notch.

And it took me a couple months to work up the nerve to really get on it (I know the guy that reassembled the whole thing).

Holy :dung:, you don't let any grass grow under your feet.
Your Jeep is looking great and the canoe really compliments it.
Have fun!!!!!!
