What did you do to or with your CJ today?
Finally got the tank dropped on my CJ. The fuel pump was barely sipping fuel from the tank.mmm
After I got it most of the way out I noticed the line from the fuel pump, where it goes into the tank, was cracked all to Helena as I was bringing it down. Well, I figured I'd put this much work into pulling the tank, I might as well pull it all the way out and inspect everything.
Everything looks good, almost no rust and very little varnish but all the rubber lines going into and out of the tank are junk. I'll probably order new filler and vent hoses too while I'm at it.
Oh happy day! I don't have to buy a new gas tank!

That hose looks like it's from 1974. :)

Replaced a brake line on my daughters CJ today. While I took the lid off the master cylinder I decided to clean it up some. Glad I did, once I removed the gasket off the lid I discovered lotsa rust. Buffed it all down, smeared a thin layer of grease on the inside, repainted the outside, cleaned up the gasket and reinstalled.

Next time I need to replace a MC, I'll remove the gasket first and apply a thin layer of rust preventive/grease.

What intake and carb did you have on there, and why swap back to a 2bbl?

Aluminum 4 barrel intake with mc2100 2 barrel carb. But the carb was a spare temp and i was done chasing vac leaks on that 4 barrel intake. Something was off. Lots of testing. Finally decided go back to stock for a bit on the new 360 and see how she runs.

So far so good ;)

Just finished an oil change along with bolting up an oil pan skid (Taboo Customs) that I'd been sitting on a while

Searched a good bit before I came across this one (didn't immediately realize the 4.0/AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l pan bolt pattern is the same)...great fitment...thing is beef

I got the roll bar off. The bolts were rusted on real bad and I had to cut them off.
I pounded out a few dents after the roll bar came off. In the rear corners up high where the roll bar brackets were blocking access to the inside to pound them out.
Got the rusted out exhaust out from under it to use as a template for the exhaust shop to make me some new exhaust.
And have come to the conclusion that I'm going to go ahead and pull the tub off and fix it right.

Took me about 30 seconds to trouble shoot it this morning, I bought Hella 5 pin relays that have a normally closed contact and a normally open contact...... so I wired my signal wire to the normally closed contact so I swapped the pin around and badda bing

Installed a new flywheel, clutch pilot bushing and clutch on my new engine.
My buddy who has a shop is going to lend a hand on the engine swap, hopefully in the next couple of weeks.
I'm hoping everything goes smoothly but you never know until you get into it. I've already replaced the engine and Transmission mounts and had the skid plate off so shouldn't have any rusted bolts there, going to start putting the PB Blaster on the manifold and exhaust bolts just in case.
Was going to change out the ignition to a HEI, but think I will hold off until I get the new engine in and running.

Got the last rounded bolt off the clutch cover. Then worked on the pilot bushing with a slide hammer for a good 1/2hour.
Dug through my junk bucket and found a 3/4” wrapped some electrical tape filled the crank bore with grease and it popped out with a few wacks.

My Jeep and I met Hoover and his wife today. They came in for a little trip to NOLA and stopped off to say hello and we swapped a bumper for an AMC thermometer. Very nice couple.

Started painless wiring install. Along the way, installed egr blockoff plate and removed old tube and plugged water jackets in intake manifold.

After much procrastination, I removed and rehabbed the fuse block. Years of dust and neglect did take a toll on those brass connections. No more wiggling of fuses to restore my instrument lights, my heater blower, my stop lights, my turn signals...

I drove my Jeep today, broke it, fixed it, and drove it home.

So I'm out driving, went around a corner and "PLING!".. cough cough spit spit spit spit..... (exhaust). Still idled fine and drove well so I back-tracked to the mechanic, who was gone but the parts store was next to his shop. Popped the hood and looked around. The exhaust manifold was new and being from the next model change ('83) my '79 did not need some of the holes that are in it so there were plugs there from the factory. When my mechanic put the exhaust on a few days ago the plugs did not get tightened down and one of them rattles loose and popped out. No problem. Parts store got me all plugged up and I was back on the road in a few minutes.

But I have to say, with this fully new exhaust system it drives like a dream. So smooth, quiet and all around awesome!

Also fixed the throttle return spring. The mechanic put on the '83 intake manifold too and the linkage had to be rigged a bit and the spring was off to the side a bit. I remounted the spring hook point and straightened it out.

Fun day.

But then I started working on the mystery no light bulb problem........
