What did you do to or with your CJ today?
Doing some odds and ends related to my recent 351w swap.

Got rid of my Bluetooth 4wd system and finally installed the front drive shaft. My Dana 20 came from Herm with the smaller yokes, so I replaced the front yoke with the correct size for my new Tom Woods drove shaft. The diff side u-joint wouldn't fit in the yoke and it was driving me nuts. Pulled the bearing caps off and found two of the rollers stuck in grease at the bottom of the cap, preventing the cap from seating all the way. I'm assuming it got mishandled on their end.

4wd and front-wd work great with the twin stick.

Mounted the e2000 fuel pump and Jeep ZJ regulator/filter. Almost ready. Wiring the swapped motor comes next.

And before anyone says “the pump is supposed to be lower than the tank”, I appreciate your thoights. I don’t want it on the frame rail where it will get hit when rock crawling. I had the pump here when I tan the sniper and had zero issues. I know others who have it here as well. It is tucked up where it won’t get crushed by rocks and is accessible.8929930a73e9a8c5a053483966db6352.jpg

It's fine, close as possible to the tank, most pumps are great at providing pressure but not so good at sucking (insert pun). Mine is in the same spot although it's not fuel injected and works fine.

Starting the wiring process. Made some progress.436798fb7cf55b37041d85e0a374d870.jpg

I went ahead and swapped over to the hard top for the winter. I figured mid Nov was about time.

You will be better off if you actually cut a square hole to mount the fuse block flush with the firewall instead of trying to run the wires through that hole.

I just finally mounted my crossmember and attached the Transmission mount to it. Drilled new holes for the mount and used a sledgehammer to massage the crossmember to the correct width and line the holes up on the frame. With the fact that my Transfer Case is clocked, I will be going with a flat skid pretty soon. No need to waste the clearance I gained.

Started on my wiring. Ugh. This will be fun (sarcasm). I need to figure out the best places for the computer and the fuse box.

Stick the computer back against the firewall, far left. Looks like a good bit of room there. And I think there’s a big shelf you could sit it on

Seriously - I hate wiring. Worst part of the whole thing.

The length of the wiring for the computer are limiting me to the area near the bulkhead. I think I will move the overflow and washer fluid tanks. And put the computer there.

Anything you did, washed it , broke it, drove it, or improved it!

post up
installed the engine harness and..... no crank 😩, next week undo everything

Took the CJ out to run an errand yesterday. My son is working and it had not been driven for a few months. Anyway, I got about a mile from the house and had to turn back. The steering was all over the place. The bolts holding the steering box to the frame had all loosened. Tightened everything back up for a big improvement but now am wondering if there is a better solution than the factory mounts. Seems like the steering box moves more than it should.

Yes there is. Mountainoffroad.com makes a really nice heavy duty bracket. Also a if you have 31s or bigger tires a cross brace in good to have.

All I did was bling mine up a bit for Christmas
