Looks like a modified YJ top

Well I nearly blew myself up guys! I was filling up at the gas station. I could hear it get up to the filler neck, but the pump wouldn't stop. A gallon latter it shut off, so I went to buy a pack of cigarettes. When I came back there was a big puddle, and when I took a closure look I could see gasoline dripping down. I pushed the CJ5 to the parking lot, and when I got underneath, I could see this tube sticking out of the tank dripping fuel directly on the exhaust pipe. By some miracle it didn't auto-ignite. I put together a Macguyver plug job with what I had, so I could get back home. In the 15 years I've owned this vehicle, the tank has never overflowed. The Jeep Gods were shining down on me today. 🙏

So that hose is clamped to a bolt ?

I couldn't find a bolt big enough to properly plug up the hose, so I used a hose clamp. It's not a permanent solution. I just need something to get me back home without leaving a trail of fire. 😉

I had a shop a few years back replace my broken Howell TBI with a Carter 2BBL. I guess they never bothered plugging up the return line. Just snipped off the hose and left it hanging there. Again seriously lucky there wasn't a fire.

Wow, dripping onto the exhaust pipe! Hopefully it’s cool enough back there not to ignite it.
If it was just dripping at the cooler side of the exhaust pipe, I probably would have been fine. The problem is due to those damn laws of fluid dynamics, the gasoline flowed down the pipe near the catalytic converter, then finally dropped to the ground. Again a miracle it didn't auto-ignite.
