What's this black round can that sits down beneath my washer fluid bottle?

Huh... Well mine has a purge line that's wound around my brake booster, a fuel line going to the canister and a carb/bowl line that's capped off on top?

What does all that mean?

The fuel tank needs to be vented on order to work, The carb fuel bowl vent line also should have a valve on it that shuts off when the engine is off so that the fuel bowl retains fuel for the next startup. Sounds like some modifications have been made. The charcoal canister is well documented on the www., a good search should inform you on how it all works, or you can just trash the thing like a lot of guys do.

Hmmmm. Mine is half baked. I do not have fuel in the bowl as it takes starting fluid when it's cold.

How can I put it back as it's supposed to be? Why would anyone change it?

I am betting on the " Oh heck bubba, you don't need all that junk, emissions my sweet back side, Take this Motha Nacha!!":D

I would be really worried about weather the tank end is sealed or if it takes on water every time you run through a puddle.

I would keep it, you have to vent the tank someplace and it may as well be a place that was designed to keep junk out of the tank.

Okay so how do I plumb it? It seems to have a line going to the canister so I need to run a line from the float port to where? Then where does the purge line go to?

When I look at mine in my '86 close up the hose line locations are printed on it, such as dist vac, pcv, tank, and carb bowl. Yours appears to be different.

Easy answer is look at the FSM on page 4A-18 , very end of the fuel and carb section.

Hard answer is I can take a picture of the page and post it for you.:D

Thanks IO. I got here now.

First spend some money and buy a manual for your Jeep, a shop manual is the best, the Haynes is better than the Chilton. My Jeep manual has very comprehensive illustrations on the Can.

Well it explains everything except where the line attached to the carb. I have the MC 2100.

IO, I like the way you talk. Lol

Hedge is correct. A manual you can hold and read and put in your jeep for future reference or beside the john for good reading ,either way owning one will improve your wisdom.

Yours is simple. The over flow port on the top in the front toward the radiator. It's a fairly big port ~1/4". Look in the carburetor section, that should show you where the over flow is .... look for the float, the port is molded in the top.

If this is what your talking about (Google image)...then I don't have that.

I have this...which may explain why my hose that leads to the carb was wound around my brake booster mount...???

I am not familiar with that carb, but somewhere there has to be a bowl vent. In this case it could be tricky to hook up. It might be down in the carb throat.

Hmmmmm, well then? It is time to pass this one on, somebody must have your carb. Odd there's no obvious vent.....

The float bowl vent was T ed into the PCV line but you do not have a vent. I am wondering if the tag on that carb will tell you what year it is. I am thinking it is a 60s era carb from an engine that still had the blow by tube rather than PCV valve. There should be a 3/8" hose from canister to the hat box to vent fumes into the carb but the bowl vent did not go to the canister, to the best of my failing senile memory.:D

Here's my carb... Tag says 6DA2J then below that E 7D 27.
