It sends an electric signal to the carburetor that the Transmission is downshifting, and the carburetor in turn adds more throttle (air & fuel) to compensate.jammer1

- 79 CJ7 Jeep rebuilt frame up 350 engine, 82 CJ8 scrambler currently being rebuilt
On a 79 CJ7 with QuadraTrac one end of the wire connects to Transmission . The other goes through the harness and connects to a switch that mounts to the firewall that has a bar behind the top of the gas petal arm. When you do w/o throttle it powers the kick down. It kicks the trans down a gear. I've never heard of it adding more throttle (fuel and air). Just kicks down a gear (like you downshifting on a manual to pass the car ahead of you.

That switch will work to 1973, they also had 1 w/post, in 1974 they switched it to 2 blade.

Not a problem. In fact I'm going to be looking for the switch, CJ8 I'm building will probably have a GM Turbo 400 . The search begins.I stand corrected, I had it backwards. Carb to trans, not the other way around, thanks jammer1

Single blade= Transmission kick down
Double blade = switch pitch converter and trans kick down (the upper blade being the converter blade) available from 1964-1967
We did a propane 383 small block 525 horse with a GM Turbo 400 and ran the down shift through the button on the shifter and the n.o.s. Through the gas pedal switch. the jeep was built for mud and made it onto the "trucks gone wild" video shot at last years Michigan mud jam.
