Hello all,

I just purchased this 1985 CJ7 and I have a few small issues to work through.

The windshield wipers work on both speeds, but the washer fluid function does not. This is what I did so far...

1. Removed wiper reservoir and connected leads from battery to pump and it works.
2. Set my meter to 12v DC to the two wires that connected to it and no power when I press the washer switch in cab.
3. Stuck my meter lead into the yellow wire connector on back of switch (other lead to ground) and pushed the washer switch and no power. I did not test the other yellow wire that goes to the 4-wire molex connector.

Do I have a bad switch or is there another test?

Thanks

I can't say for sure what the wiring is for that switch because I'm on a phone and cannot check the TSM but it is available for download in our document section. The link to the download is below. You need two posts to allow a download so just reply again and you will see the button appear.

Thanks for the reply. I searched this forum and couldn't find the answer that I needed.
The Factory TSM that I linked to has a full electrical diagram which will show you which wire feeds the pump.

I think there's a reason why most CJs dont still have a functioning windshield spray nozzle. The plastic hoses rot and the motor breaks, and everything is so inaccessible that it's not really worth fixing.

Thanks again.

I have the hard copy FSM and I know that the yellow wire feeds the pump. Not sure if the switch is bad or if it's the wiring to the pump.
If the motor runs when directly to +12v then the motor is good. If you don't have +12v to the motor at the switch then the switch is bed. Why not feed +12v at the switch to completely test the assembled circuit?

I would just install a Momentary Switch to the Washer Motor and call it Good. Way cheaper and Easier than replacing the entire wiper switch and find out it still doesn't work.......

Okay, so I set my meter to continuity and stabbed the red wire (power) and the yellow wire (going out to the washer pump) in the back of the switch and with the power off to the Jeep, there was no continuity (no beep) and while pushing the washer button in, still no beep.

Bad switch?

Yes, bad switch. It's should show no continuity when the button is not pressed but continuity when depressed to feed the +12v to the motor.

Oh yea, forgot to reiterate that you should check continuity from the switch to the motor or back feed +12v @ the switch to the motor to test the circuit just so it's ready to go when you are all set.

Can I put a jumper wire from the red wire to the yellow wire on the back of the switch to see if 12v is getting to the yellow wire at the pump?
Yes, any where you can pick up.+12v is ok.
