You know you own a CJ when...
I always make eye contact with aggressive drivers, esp if they're using the horn in short bursts. Even if they're just angry, I will let them pass me if they want.

When I was a kid, around 1974 or '75, my mom was dragging me on errands.

We lived in Big Bear at the time, headed for San Bernardino. I had a medical emergency in the backseat.

She drove purposefully, safely but quickly.

Two 20-somethings were driving much slower than the speed limit on the front side of the mountain. When we got to a passing lane, she moved left and they thought it was hilarious to pin her in the quickly ending lane while the road was straight.

They were laughing really hard as they watched my 40-something mom look desperately at them, pleading with her expression and short horn bursts for them to let her pass and get in the correct lane.

Then she gunned it. Their rice burner was no match for my dad's 307. She got me to hospital to get stabilized and air lifted to LA.

Yeah, it's a corner case, but it shaped me. I don't get in anyone's way, but I don't pull over if the other driver's just looking frustrated because he's not getting his way.

That situation is always in the back of my mind as well, "Are they in a hurry for a good reason?" Probably 99% of the time I don't mess with a driver that is in a hurry. As you said you've got to look and see who you are dealing with. It's the guy deliberately acting like a jerk that rubs me wrong. Ie pulling up so close I can't see his headlights or extended periods of time, especially when there is an open lane for them to use. In a jeep that's mighty close. Or when they yell at me, that is never impressive, well it impresses me alright. So, in reality don't do as I have written, it's stupid. You never really know why someone is in a hurry.

You know you own a CJ when you hesitate to put on cargo shorts simply because they say, "Wrangler."

Isn't that the truth ...... :)

When you start seeing CJ Mirages way down the road on the horizon only to be let down when it turns out to be a JK. :(

This^

I lucked out and got 2 jeep waves the day I got my CJ back on the road after months of Transmission work, total dry spell since!

When: A few weeks ago Bill and I took the CJ out on a parts run. A normal day actually. Out of the corner Of my eye I saw him shaking his head and smiling. So naturally I say, "What are you smiling about!" Bill says, "Does this happen all the time? That guy on the motorcycle was the third person to give you a thumbs up." I says, "Yeah, its an older Jeep thing."

Along with what Hedge said about “It’s a Jeep thing”, I question if a person really understands the words unless they drive a CJ……. :chug:

I frequently find that people know the older jeeps, or CJ's we know them as, a lot of people might not know them as CJ's, but know they are the older models.

It must be a weakness in my genetic structure, those stickers sorta make me smile.

It's not so much the stickers, it's that they were on a Liberty.:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

But ... but ..... aren't the Liberty's "Trail Rated" ..... I wonder what trail?

All those very expensive "jeepers" wave to you, and you ignore them.

Most JKs here are oblivious to the waves.

But now that I added a JKU to the fleet I find the wave thing very different between the vehicles. I know it is still cery stock right now, but i am ignored. Like I am in a Honda Accord. But in the CJ, I still get looks, thumbs up and conversations. Love it.

werdsign.gif I wave to all of them, the soccer moms, the spoiled rich kids, the dip$hits with more money than brains, the mall crawlers, JK or JKU it doesn't really matter, 1 in 10 waves back. TJ is better at probably 7 in 10, YJ or CJ is 9 in 10. Some just don't get it, or don't want to. The JK crowd is just a different demographic of people, generally speaking, than most previous Jeep (CJ/Wrangler) owners.

I think the reason the CJs get such a good reaction is because they are getting old, the last CJ was manufactured 29 years ago. And to see one, in good shape and driving is cool. Not on a trailer being towed somewhere, but cruising down the road, it takes a lot of work to keep a vehicle (in my case that's older than I am) going down the road.
