1981 cj5, front axle placement

Hello, I am interested in buying this red 1981 CJ5 . It would be much easier if it wasn't 16 hours away. The question I have, is does the front axle look like it is back too far? To me it just doesn't look right. Thanks

If you look at the rear it looks the same way I think it's the the big wheels and tires.

I think thats a CJ7 and the photo is totally distorted. Look at the Yj 1/2 doors that are on it. They are "U" shaped not "S" shaped like Cj-5s. Maybe someone did some custom work to it but the doors look really small and strange. Id ask for some photos to your email. The overly tall shackles are a turn off for me as well.

I would be asking the seller for more pictures and information about the rig. Maybe they can explain more about it, Pic looks distorted to me.

Thanks for the replies. For some reason a po had put a yj rear tub on. I'm sure it's a 5, don't know why the picture is so distorted, but it's way to short to be a 7 I think. Maybe I will keep looking

I'm thinking that it is a CJ5 also, Somebody did some fancy bodywork. Oh well, if the price is right............

YJ tub, you can see the side hinged swing open tail gate. YJ windshield frame as well.

Yup the distortion of the pic just makes it look like a CJ5 . Its a CJ7 with a Yj tub swap

The nose is a CJ in the correct length, it's a yj tub that may have had the door reworked, pic is distorted, or both. There is nothing wrong with the front axle and fender it's just the angle of the pic.

Ask him to run a tape measure from hub to hub that will answer your question.

Go back and look at your first post, look at the pic and soft top track. The track stops at the rollbar, on a CJ7 or yj tub the track stops at the door opening. We know its a yj tub and the track stops at the rollbar, one would conclude the door opening has been reworked.

The Yj tub is longer than a CJ5 tub. It is the same size as a CJ7 tub. The wheelbase looks shorter cause the middle of the pic is distorted. look how tiny the Yj 1/2 doors are.

It looks to me that someone shortened a yj tub and doors to fit a CJ5 wheelbase/ chassis.They shortened the tub at the door opening, apparently. Also looks like the xtra long shackles have pivoted the axles back on the front axle and forward on the back axle

Boy I didnt think anyone would take the time to chop a Yj tub and doors to fit a CJ5 but looks like they did. Wonder what hes using for the upper doors? It just doesnt look right to me.

After going directly to the website I dont believe that its trick photography . It really looks as though someone has cut-down the doors! Pete, if someone can do the metal doors likr that!, surely they can cut down vinyl! Notice ,the doors are missing the key lock.

I think British Columbia but surely it rains everywhere.. Does make me recall that alot of folks sell their hard tops and full doors? Could never part with mine but 6 on one side and half a dozen in the other right.
