1982 this isn't the computer is it

So I've thought about the nutter bypass but don't think I can since it's an 82, I don't think it has the computer but want to double check.
Hopefully this pic will come through.
On the front passenger side fender there is a box with 9 wires coming out that run towards the firewall and tie into the back of the fuse box.
It does have the box under the resivore with a purple and orange wire, and coming out of the distributor is 3 wires I believe orange, purple, and black.
The way I understand it is, if that isn't the computer then there is no need for the bypass, is this correct?

That is the ignition control module, a critical part of your ignition system. The computer is located behind the glove box. If you do the John Nutter by pass it will also prevent proper computer operation of the carb fuel mixture. Some guys that do the bypass, advance the ignition timing a bit and switch to an aftermarket carb. The by pass was for all the computer operated CJs.

To bypass or not to bypass is a personal (religious-y) choice. Some people keep it stock with the computer and some people pull it.

One of the three previous owners enacted the bypass on my CJ and I'm fine with that choice.

Best thing I ever did with my jeep was to get a weber carburetor. Only wish I had done it 95 thousand miles before I did.

I looked behind the glovebox but didn't see anything other than the blower motor. With this being said I'm assuming there isn't a computer... with that being said, if it doesn't have a computer then there isn't a need for the bypass is that correct? Or will it still help? Everything I see says 83 and later due to the computer.

You are correct. '82 could have been the transition year where the Calif. versions had them. So if your CJ ever had one, it now has a computer by pass.
If your CJ ever gets a serious ignition miss it would probably be that ignition module or the distributor pick up coil.
