1986 CJ-7 (From Scratch), only body sheet metal used in build, everything else NEW. TDK A500 Boxed Frame, 6.2L LS3 500HP, Tremec TR-4050, Atlas 3.00:1 T-case, Dana 60 4.10 rear with True Trac, and Dana 44 Front 4.10 with True Trac.
Heya All, Thought I'd pass this on in case anyone was in the same bind I was on my project. I am building a 1986 CJ7 from scratch, so obviously I needed to souce a lot of the misc components needed for the wiring. I am using a Painless wiring universal CJ kit, so it doesn't have all the connectors. In hind sight, it was porbably a better Idea to spend the extra $$$ for the complete harness. But here I am lol. I was trying to source a headlight switch connector for the '86 CJ. Backordered everywhere with no one expecting them very soon. I'm at the point I'm working on the wiring. I did figure a work around for those that might be in a bind that will work, allbeit the right connector would have been the real ticket.
I used a Duralast 583 connector from Autozone. Its listed for the W100 trucks and is a 9 pin connector. The CJ has 7 pins. As you will see below, if you nip the 2 corner connectors off with a dremel, the connector plugs right in as all the other wires are correctly positioned. but without cutting those 2 off, it will not plug in. I know its not a perfect solution, and color codes on the wires may not match up, but when nothing else is available, you have to get inventive! Hope this helps someone down the way. Thanks!

The only other thing to note is that the lock tabs are not in the right spot, but it fits tight and I'm not worried it will fall off. I could use a zip tie as extra insurance if needed.
