Good morning everybody,
Haven't been on the boards in quite a while as work has been keeping me on the road. I found myself with some free time this weekend So I went out to my garage and tried to fire the girl up. She Started but ran like :dung: for a few minutes and died.
I put the MC2100 about two years ago but haven't driven the Jeep very much. Now when I start it she cranks and runs then dies like I'm out of gas. There is gas in the tank and I have spark and clean air filter. I have to get it started to time it. I did find a leak at the base of the carb any advice Would sure be appreciated Spring is here and I might get a day off in the future

2100's have a well known history of vacuum leaks at the base.
When did you last change the fuel filter?
LG

Yeah it was pretty wet so I pulled it off the manifold and to my surprise there TWO gaskets between the base and the adaptor. The bowl was full when I took the carb off and poured it all down my shirt But I' going to replace it anyway. Any reason WHY I'd have two gaskets

Poor attempt to fix a v'leak.

I pulled the JUNK Carter off of the Jeep and installed the Ford carb 2 gaskets are not generally a good Idea and for the life of me I don't recall doing it Maybe I had a brain fart Going to buy a new gasket and a fuel filter now

I like the Carter better than the 2100. :D

Fixed the VAC leaks still cant keep it running without keeping my foot on the gas starts and wont idle just dies
ANY guesses ?

How do you know you fix'd the "V" leaks? How did you CK for them?
It sure sounds like you still have'em, somewhere.

Every thing is plugged on the carb.

That doesn't mean you don't have any leaks from the intake manifold or the carbs base.
Fill a spray bottle with VERY soapy water. Get the engine run'n and while run'n. Spray the soapy water all around the carb's base and everydangplace else on the intake. "V" leaks will suc the bubbles inside, and the engine's 'pitch' will change tell'n you there's a leak.
Like I said before-those 2100's are notorious for leak'n. Most times at the carb's base.........
Bet you find the biggest leak at the back of the carb's base.

After a vacuum leak test, which is probably the issue, you might want to check the fuel burn by inspecting the spark plug deposits. Like weather you are running too rich or lean. Good luck with getting a day off work.

Yeah I need the days off and I'll pull the plugs next chance I get. LG I double clutched the submit reply button But I'm pretty sure I sure I wouldn't use soapy water to find a vac. leak. The last time I had it running I was pulling damn near 22" of vacuum off the manifold at Idle. I don't really suspect a leak there.

Nut'n wrong with the soapy water deal-OLD SCHOOL trick I learned in high school for find'n vacuum and positive pressure leaks.;)
You say it won't run below 1/2 throttle, then you say your pull'n 22"hg at idle. May I ask what the altitude is where you live, to see that reading?
Let us know what you find.
THX,

Doesn't matter much what you were running for vac it won't be 22" now if you need to have the throttle half way down to keep it running.

If you can post a vid of the vac reading I can help pinpoint your problem.

I have to get it started to time it.
You don't have to start it
Turn the engine until you find TDC on the compression stroke on # 1 cylinder
Line up your HB to TDC
Use something similar to a chop stick to check that the piston is TDC this will assure you the HB hasn't spun.
Now turn the timing mark counter clockwise (facing the engine) pass 20°, then clockwise to factory specs (8°)?
Line up the rotor to the # 1 terminal of the cap.

Problem is I CANT KEEP IT RUNNING it starts and dies like its Starving for fuel. It sat for over Six months and I think I have carb issues over Vacuum leaks. You can usually keep an engine running long enough to find a leak even with a BIG vacuum leak. changed the fuel filter, and checked the flow, The accelerator pump blows atomized fuel when you pump the pedal. When I get home from Texas I may have a couple days off I think Ill pull the carb and rebuild it My guess is its got trash in it somewhere.

:agree:

You gotta get it to idle first. ;)
THEN and NOW don't mean squat, if it won't idle :bang:

Damn near sea level the gauge may be a little off it old not a prof. grade tool but it works

Sea level explains it for the read'n. :D
Was it a steady needle, or did it bounce around more than 1"hg?
