Assuming you have the AMC 232 i6 I6, it's just a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l with a shorter stroke. A 4.0 will bolt in where a AMC 232 i6 /AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l was, but I don't know of there may be differences in them.
