3 speed transmission swap?

Although the cases are obviously different between the T150 and the T18 the transmissions are basically the same as far as usability and service except the T18 comes with the granny low. (2 different granny low gear ratios available, 4.01 & 6.32) As your jeep is a 1979 the bell housing is drilled and taped for both the Ford “butterfly” transmission pattern (T150) and the CJ T18. This lets you use either a CJ T18 or a Ford T18 for the transplant. Also the 1979 CJ frame is drilled and tapped for either the T150 or the T18 as well. For the T150 the front bolt holes in the skid plate lines up with the front holes in the frame while for the T18 the back holes in the skid plate line up with the back set of holes in the frame, leaving an extra set of holes at one end or the other.
