trying to solve my coolant leak problem I just removed the head from my engine expecting to see a bad gasket but everything looks great. And the head appears to have been redone not to long ago.however there are 3 (what I would call) freeze plugs along the bottom that are rusty and have holes in 2 of them. And they happen to be where the leaks were coming from. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated ! thanks!

what do you want to know?? replace them.

my understanding the head was redone about 20,000 miles ago. Is there something better that I could do or is this gonna happen all the time.I realize they need replaced.like I said I've never did this type of repair before before and am learning as i go.

It is strange if the head was just machined, I think the machine shop usually removes these plugs and uses the holes to hold the head on the table. Perhaps the engine was acid flushed and the acid left in the system. Did you closely examine the plugs in the block?? Those are the ones I would worry about most, at this point. especially the ones inside the bell housing.

the freeze plugs in the block look new as well,no rust like the ones in the head.I did notice that the PO was running water only in the motor. The PO only owned the jeep for under a year.I believe the guy before him did all the work.the guy i bought it from was more clueless than me.I'm taking the head in to have it all checked out before i re assemble.thanks again for your help!

they were steel. Can i specify what i want put back in there?
