Build Thread 83 CJ7 its time to get it done

The only safe place for the jack is to somehow mount it on the inside. My first mount was across the back. I backed into a tree and bent it. Next was across the inner fender wells. It was always in the way when getting stuff out of the back. Now I have it across my front bumper and I know that someday I'll bend it again. A friend had his mounted upright on his tire carrier. He snagged it on a tree branch and ripped his tire carrier off. I've seen a few mounted on the cowl. Not sure how I like that or if it's in the way when opening the hood all the way. That may be my next try.

I have been thinking about mounting mine vertically on the roll bar behind the driver seat... not sure if it will fit yet

I have an AMC 360 pump, pulley, and bracket from project86

And I just ordered a steering box for a 98 Dodge Durango which is a Saginaw same as the CJs with the same hose fittings
It will be ready to pick up tomorrow

Ok - Once again you probly just spent some of my cash......... At least all I would have to replace would be the steering box......

Im not much on the hood mounting. Mainly as the rain and dew would leave rusty water on the hood. Maybe as a temporary trip mount it would work but not full time. The side or back mount would be a better option

If it stops raining any this weekend I’m going to at least try to look at where I can mount it permanently and hopefully dry

I mounted a hi lift on the front bumper of my son's jeep. Made my own brackets for it. My reasoning was if he was gonna be in a crash the more steel/protection up front the better.

Let’s get to the most important question, when is the Wrangler decal coming off! Lol.

And that’s some impressive hauling there, I think our state DOT departments would lose their mind on that set up here in communist MA. They love to tweet out pics of the vehicles they’re ticketing for unsafe load transportation.

The Durango box has the small .720 input and the Jeep has the large .8 input

And now to re install the old steering box.......

That's odd. When I installed the durango box in my rig, It was a direct fit.

My steering shaft definitely has the large input

And oriellys who I bought the box from shows each box has the small input

I don't. It was quite a while ago. I bought the box used and it replaced a YJ box. I had somehow thought that all boxes with power steering had the same input.
