He had to have done some cleaning. When I was there I don't remember that you could walk by the drivers side of his rig.

I think he just shoved it behind the Jeep and "cleverly" cropped it out of the shot...

He must think we're a bunch of rubes...

Tough crowd today lol


The tubs behind my Jeep are full of copper wire that I want to melt into copper ingots, I have about 250 pounds of it so far that I have been saving up for a long time, I will probably move that to the attic for now, my mini forge is not melting the wire so I need to trouble shoot it to get it hotter, as well as my spare NV4500 parts that need to go upstairs

Speaking of which I have some Mini Cooper s motor parts for sale if you guys need some

Gert, looking through your build photos, as I’m jealous your progress is much further along than mine, did you covert your rear axle to disc brakes?

Also, what size tires are you running?

hey Ultrunner, i did a bunch of stuff. i swapped in the front Dana 44 from my old 83 Dodge 4x4 and grabbed the rear 9.25 while i was at it, i kept the Dodge disc brakes on the front and took the old Jeep Dana 30 discs and put them on my 9.25 rear. i am using a Transfer Case mounted parking brake as well. i narrowed both axles to 60 inches and built the rear with moser circle track axle package and am saving my pennies for the moser front axle shafts

i am running Goodyear Duratrac tires that are 315/70/17 (roughly 35 inch)on mickey thompson classic III wheels, from what i understand the new classic III are no longer drilled with a large enough center hole to fit a CJ lock out so be aware of that

Gert, WOW! That is a lot of stuff. I’m not quite at your level. I’m looking to upgrade my AMC20 with a one piece shaft and truss it for more reinforcement. I want to convert to disc brakes; it looks complicated. Never thought of cannibalizing from another axle.

How do you like the 17” wheels. There are certainly more tire sizes and wheel options going a little larger than the standard 15”. Not sure how backspacing and offset is worked out though.

Some days I wish I would have done things differently, i didn’t follow the KISS principle and here I am years later barely getting mine on the road

My AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l died so I went to the junkyard and got a 360 which was great but I started tearing up yokes and I joints but I had a running and driving set up

Now I wish I would have left the AMC20 and added the track bar to it and work on the body as I was driving it

I think you should get some moser 1 piece axle shafts whatever gears you need and the aftermarket disc conversion weld the axle tubes to the housing and have fun

I have spent years trying to achieve perfection and missed some of the best years of my life having my Jeep in the garage

I feel yer pain. I kept holding on to the fact I was able to clear the hurdles as they appeared. Unfortunately I caused a good number of em. Keep at it - you’re close [emoji106][emoji106]

I was wondering when I was under the Jeep if all this is going to worth it or not


I got it fired it back up after trimming the dust shield like 3 more times sounded good still has a great exhaust leak this time from the passenger side where I forgot to install the donut gasket and I am going to have to prime the fuel system by hand since my pump won’t prime more to do

YES. Won’t seem like it now, but once you’re done you’ll be glad you put in the extra time. Especially since you did it right!! The first time to take it out for a shake down run, you won’t ask this question again....

Now - Quit whinin and get back to work.....

That’s some good perspective; I appreciate it. You’re right, There’s all kinds of awesome modifications and upgrades I could do, but, should I do them? The KISS approach it spot on. Your recommendation for the AMC20 is exactly where I am with it.

I have realized if I’m spending to much time working out the how to achieve some mod I want to make its probably to complicated and at then end of the day I just want to have fun driving it.

Don't understand why those looks have so much power... but they do. My looks have no power over her whatsoever...
