Can anyone tell me witch way the Axle seal faces on a one G2 one piece axle install? The inner seal inside the housing. I have to change out a bearing and can not remember witch way the seal faces. I believe the line on the bearing faces out?

Most of the kits use standard AMC20 inner seals. In any case I believe the lip on the seal should be pointing into the axle tube. I think the "line on the bearing" you refer to is the line between the roller cage locater ring and the bearing cone? Then yes, it goes against the brake backing plate.

Doesn't G2 just use the outer seal that bolts to the brake's backing plate?

When it was first put in a few years ago it had both a inner seal and outer seal.

Inner seal-The 'lip' faces the the diff. housing.
Make sure it is seated 'square' within the axle tube.
Pack the seal lips with grease before the axle goes in.

I did not realize the the diff had no seals right beside the diff. Now it makes sense keep the oil in. I will get at it soon if I figure the pic thing out Ill post. thanks guys!

The inner seal is to keep the oil out of the greased bearings.

Ok I have hit a wall. I carefully set my inner seal in. The inner seal for the love of god would not set in square. It was 1.208 on one side and 1.244 on the other side. The mating surface of the axle housing where the inner seal mates looks like the machining is perhaps out of whack. Would anyone have a measurement from the flange to the seal face. I was thinking of machining a seal driver that would bottom out at the flange to my 1.208. Then the seal would be square. In regards to the 20-80 for bearing load. When you look at the bearing the inner cone of the bearing sticks out farther then the outer race. Would the 20-80 thou be measured against the bearing race that would push against the backing plate?

Sorry-Can't help you w/Dana 20 specs.
Got rid of mine 24+ years ago. :D
I would measure from the seal surface of the axle to the outside bearing lip for the depth.
Seat the seal in the housing with a large socket and extension that is marked with the dept you need.
Measure the seal depth for each side.

The inner race that sticks out should be pointing toward the inside. The brake backing plate seats against the bearing cage locator ring on the set 9 type bearings.

I can't win for losing. I figured out the depth to put the seal in. Measured 50 million times Made a driver that will bottom out against the axle flange. Machined down the spacer 65 thou to get into speck with the 20-80. But now the collar rides against the seal. If I Use the shims from the old bearing way I can get into speck with a new spacer.

Can you post some pictures??

Lumpy I figure I have1.500depth in the axle housing. The seal and spacer and bearing combine to 1.628. I machined the bushing down but did not realize the seal center would ride against the locking collar after the machining. I have a new bushing coming and plan just to space the backing plate out with a shim.

You REALLY need to contact G2 about this issue.
Something just ain't 'rite' and I can't see it-
