My engine (AMC 360) does not idle smoothly, it seems to hunt up and down a couple of 100 RPM (i.e. does not stay at one consistent speed) this happens more once warm. Could this be caused from a miss adjusted idle mixture?
Other than this the engine runs great
Standard 360 with no smog kit, running MC2100/manual choke and HEI dizzy conversion
Any ideas

You might have a vacuum leak. One of the ways I find leaks is to use carb cleaner and spray it on the vacuum hoses and base of the carb and lastly the intake manifold to head joint. :chug: when you spray on your leak your idle rpm will change :chug: it could be other things as well, hard to say without looking at it :chug:

Another possibility would be a worn timing chain, this could be checked with a timing light.

I agree with gert.....It sounds like a vacuum issue.

I agree with Gert and CJim7 as well. If its hunting...a you call it, sounds like a lean condition caused by a vacuum leak. You can adjust the air fuel mixtures screws and possibly get a smother idle, just attach a vacuum gauge if you have one, and adjust for max vacuum. Other wise, just adjust for highest idle. Lets us know what you find...good luck! Rick

Do you still have the heat tubes hooked up to the choke housing? I not you need to cap the threaded open end. You will have a vacuum leak from there. I'd also double check your bolts around the carb and intake gasket for leaks. With
It getting worse when it's warm makes me think you have a small leak that get worse as the motor heats up and things start to expand.
