Here is my 1967 CJ6 .





I picked it up from a guy who didn't seem to have it to long. He bought I from an older guy who used it in local parades. It was painted to look like a M170 military ambulance. My plans are to get it to original or close to original as possible.

So after getting it home, on trailer of course, I was able to really checkout what my new project has;

225 Dauntless Buick 225 V6 V6, checked compression on all cylinders, all was good.
T-86 Transmission , 3 speed, shifted ok on test drive
Ross steering, both hands on the wheel, enough said!
Dana 44 rear
Dana 27 front
2.5" Rancho lift with con fer shackles.
T-18 high/low Transfer Case
31x11.5 BFG tires on 16" rims

Stripped everything off. Now down to just the bare bones. I had the compression checked on the engine and all was good. I will not have it rebuilt but I m sure I will change out a few things, water pump, fuel pump ect.. All the add ons. Upon getting a better look at the engine I noticed that a bolt on the engine mounts was broken off in the engine block, I hope I can back it out
With no problems.

Looks to be in very good shape
vin matches the model, year, and engine
appears to be a late 67, possibly August.

Here is one of the issues I will have to address on the tube.



They didn't have a spare tire carrier when I bought it, but it looks like it must have been poor backing that damaged the side.
Looks like a quick patch job, but I plan on putting a spare tire back on the side so I'll have to fix

let me apologize for the pictures. They are out of order, but I will try to keep them check from here on out.

So I am back to some pictures of the body and finally really getting a good look at what ive bought. its amazing how much you don't notice or see when your looking at buying it.

Im pretty satisfied with what I see, but then again it is covered in layers and layers of olive drab. There is some diamond plate cut outs bolted to the passenger and driver side floor boards. Um yeah, usually a good sign someone is wanting to cover something up.

I will not be putting the roll bar back on since I believe, and someone correct me if im wrong, they did not come with them for that year, 1967. I do know that this one was added later. It is bolted to the rear fender wells and the floor with no backing, very flimsy.

Finally! Some paint other than olive drab, which leaves me both happy and sad. Happy since my plans were to paint the jeep back to its original color, but sad because I don't care for the color Red on vehicles.

After some research on the year and colors used. This must be Presidents Red.

I'll have to rethink my plans and options, but first ill have to get rid of all this olive drab. It's all over. They painted the axles, shocks, brake lines, headlight bezels, rubber shift boots, leaf springs, ect............................!

Well as mentioned before, my plans are to restore this jeep back to original or as close as possible. So with that being said, I've been searching for some original rims and tire replacement. It currently has some 31X11.5 BFGoodrich, which are some nice tires but very over sized for the stock Ross steering which I believe is a huge cause for the horrible handling. So after so time looking I was able to locate some original Kaiser Haynes rims with 15x4.5 stamped on them. Looking very narrow, but I was assured by the seller that the rims came off a late 50's Willys Wagon and he was running some 235x75R15 radial tires. I've already decided to go with some Firestone Destination A/T tires 215x75R15, which would bring me close to the original tire size for the jeep without paying a butt load.

best thing about the rims is they were cheap and he has five of them. Did a little more research on them after I got them home and started cleaning them up. These rims are riveted, not welded, which I was told could prevent me from up grading the brakes from 10" to 11" drums. That up grade wasn't in the plan, however, after getting a closer look of that tiny master cylinder, it could be an option.

Nice job those look great. Those are the same tires I run on my wifes Cherokee and I love them.

You can tell there old by the riveted centers. Not sure what year they went to welding them .Does the rim have safety bead ? Those where probably used with tube type tires. If they hold air "no harm no foul"

Looks like a great project.Everything looks pretty stock.You may want to take a close look at the engine.Might just be aftermarket valve covers or something but I don't think there original Dauntless Buick 225 V6 parts.

Yes mstar, the engine does have after market valve covers as well as a few upgrades, air filter, altonator, I plan on going back original.

As far as the rims, I do believe you are correct on the tubes. Not sure about the "safety bead" you are referring too, however, the tires are holding air currently, but they have not been put on the jeep as of yet. We will see what happens once I put them on.

Did some work on the frame, nothing special. Sanded, treated with rust inhibitor, primed, then painted with some rattle can rustoleum.
