I am getting ready to get all the stuff for the upgrade on the AMC 304 . I have read the sticky and just a couple more questions and I should be good with it. I will be getting the cap/rotor/base/plug wires for a 79 F-350 w/ 460 and wanting to know how the factory ford wires fit on the AMC 304 . Are they the correct lengths or close enough so there is no excess? I noticed they have a 45 deg angle at the plug end--is this enough clearance for stock exhaust manifolds? I think they come with the coil end to match the square TFI coil? I may end up and go with the MSD 5551 wires as they are just a few dollars more and I can make them the correct lengths and they are straight at the plug end AND match the coil.

This is what I plan on purchasing at this time:
cap/rotor/base ( stock )
plug wires ( probably MSD to match the coil )
MSD blaster coil( so I can use factory mount and location )
distributor springs 925D
plugs autolight 65 and gap to .045

Any final thoughts before the purchase????

thanks to all. :D

I probably will not do the 6A upgrade as money is tight now but just wanting to know if what I have will work for a mild upgrade.

I did the TFI upgrade on my 401 and used the stock 8mm Ford plug wires. Yes, some of the wire lengths are a bit awkward...but just do some mix and matching with them and they will work fine.
I seem to remember I had a huge issue with wires when I did the TFI on my 6cyl (used the Ford 300cid components)..but that was a long time ago.

The 45 degree at the plug end is no issue with stock manifolds...clearance is fine.

I used parts for a '88 F-350 with a 460 when I did mine. MAybe not showroom quality, but the upgrade was well worth it.

:)MSD ,Moroso all sell wire kits with one end on them already, cut them to length, some put a clamp style crimper in the box........there is a special pliers that MSD sells for the purpose..............extra wire adds extra resistance to your ignition system...........
