Bell housing for 258

Bell housing for 258
AZ75CJ5, take a few pics of the Transmission and Transfer Case . Also snap one if the shifter from the top side, the shape of that can help tell what Transmission you have too. I now see why you were told not to drive your Jeep. Also, post up some pics of the front end too. With all thats wrong at the rear it will be interesting to see how they set up the front end.

My friend that looked at it said front end is fine, other than needing to get new shackles all the way around as well as new springs. Also guy who did lift didnt put in shocks correctly so was told to look into 02 F250 Shock Towers. I take some pics of tranny, Transfer Case and shifter tonight or tomorrow. Gonna get in there and take off old bell housing before I purchase a new one.

Here is a thread I had prev posted about front end.

Oh my god man, you've got to start over with that lift .... Are the axles even stock? how wide are they? Seriously, measure your axles they don't look right at all (welded on shock and dampener mounts, do you have drum brakes in front?). And your springs, how wide are the springs themselves? It's obvious that they aren't right. And the springs going BETWEEN the steering linkage, and a bent steering linkage, WTF was that guy thinking! Don't get me wrong, your jeep probably has decent, mostly fixable bones, but at this point the thing scares me to death.

This shouldn't be just me saying this, Lumpy, IO, Peter, NoMoreBusaDave anybody, I could be wrong, please jump in here with some advice.

From what I have learned, axles came off of a chevy (6 bolt) and is Dana 44 . Yup, def have my work cut out for me, haha. Really good thing is though is that I have a 18 year old son that we have drifted apart over last 5 years or so and this jeep is helping us to rebuild relationship by giving us something to work on together. I also told him when we are all done (we all know that never "done" when comes to an old CJ) but one day I will pass it on to him.

Are they stock or have they been shortened? At least they are strong and easy to find parts for.

What was told me to is that axles look stock width. Also looks like rear axles pushed back a little and front axles pushed foward a little. This was from a guy that has been a jeeper for years and has built and worked on many jeeps. I am new to this so I can only go by what has been told to me.

the wrong springs can do that.

I was under the impression that po did it intentionally and that was a good thing as well as leaving axles wide (less likely to roll). I also really like the way tires stick out wider than the body. I think it looks tough. Haha.

Rob at Willys Works has about any combination bell housing you might need, $100.

well, wide isn't really a bad thing as long as your differentials line up correctly. The next thing is setting up your shackles to work with your springs, they are collapsed right now.

My plan is bell housing, rear drive-line, pass emissions, suspension, then new tires. Somewhere in there i also have to have some brackets fabricated to install rear seat and seatbelts.

Do you know if Willy's will ship? Once I have old one off will know exactly what i am looking for.

Dude, take a bunch of pictures from every angle under there of the whole suspension set up, and of the Transmission / Transfer Case too, and top shiftier (as was mentioned before) - we'll help you out...

The perches should be ground off and new ones welded on for sure, but you will need to have the springs and shackles mounted correctly first.

Then once you have all that done, the rest can be done. You'll want the tranny and Transfer Case in while figuring perch angles / drive line angle.

I would not drive it either until the suspension is completely redone...

Here are a few pics.

Also looking at numbers on Transmission looks like 13-01065-901 and tab on top says 13-07-012

I believe Robb will ship. But I wouldn't do that. I'd get a list of parts needed, give Rob a call, then take a trip down here. Rob won't rip you off and he stands by his used parts.

Gonna start making some calls now ive discovered a T-15 . From google seems like tough part to find and I dont want to take it all apart if will stay apart for long period of time. There has not been one simple issue so far, is this going to be this way the whole build? Or will smooth out once these major issues are resolved? Im getting nervous, lmao.

Looks smaller than my T-15 , the T-14 is a smaller version ..... Sorry I'm not trying to frustrate you here. Were the numbers cast into the case or are the ones on the tag?

Have the Vin numbers decoded, they will tell you what the jeep was to begin with. At least you will know if your engine started out as a V8 or I-6

Once you identify everything it'll get easier

Other issue is po rigged up so many things. No joke when they say jeep stands for just empty every pocket. Haha.

Yeah I've been there, not as deep in there as you are. Mine was mostly warn out broken and abused. I have said, "Well, I'm going to continue to dig until I find jeep, then build out from there.

About the VIN number, if there is an "H" about in the middle your jeep started life as a V8. I'm not sure, heck I don't know at all what the I-6 had for an engine designation. It would be easy enough to find though.
