Bell Housing question

Hi all, and thanks for the add.
I have a 1980 CJ5 that was originally a 4 cylinder with an SR4 4 speed and Dana 300 Transfer. The person I had purchased it from had it in a SBC configuration still using the SR4 Transmission . The motor was shot, having dropped a couple cam lobes and then running it until the damn thing stopped, he sold it.
I am in the middle of putting it back together and have a new SBC to go back in, since it was already set up for it. However I am going with a T-176 4 speed with another Dana 300 .
My question is, the bell housing from the four cylinder is supposed to be a direct bolt up to the T-176 as that Transmission was an option. But...there are only the mounting holes for the SR4 which is different from the T-176 . What is the best way to make this combination work? There is plenty of space where the mounting holes could/might be drilled, but am a little hesitant to just dive in without hearing from others who might know a little more than I about what to do.
