1979 CJ 7 w/304, TH400 tranny w/ model 20 transfer case, model 30 front axles, rear axle AMC track-lok (3.54:1)
Ill try to make it quick and simple. I bought my 79" CJ7 from someone as a AMC 304 w/an automatic, only to find out it was later converted. Apon reading this forum and a repair manual I am learning that I do not know what my Transfer Case is or my axles because it was a manual tranny at one time so im not sure what all was changed out. I took some pics and found some #s on the parts, so I am going to post them and get your guys input. Im not sure how to send pics so Ill give the numbers to each while i figure out the picture thing. The Transfer Case should be a model 20 , but here are the #s. On the rear of it was the Dana symbol and under that was C18-15-24-8. There was also a tag that had 309001 15 and under that # was 5359222. On the housing where the rear axle connects was C18-19-44. The rear axle, all i found was the letter "N" stamped to the right of housing. In the manual this letter indicated the axle was Trac-Lok 3.54:1, 11/39 pinion drive gear teeth. The front axle, i found one side had B306 78 and other side was NC in a diamond type symbol. The tranny is a GM Turbo 400 . Thanks for your help.

Pics are everydangthing here in this case.

Hopefully this works. Here are a couple of each axle and the tc. I also have front views and closer or farther shots. Let me know if you need different shots. Thanks again guys.

X2 on the AMC20 . a pic of the front cover will tell us what the front diff is.

Try these. I know, The front drive shaft is on the list of "to do's". And there are no rear shocks. He actually drove this to work. Granted he only lived a few miles from his work, but man is she swirly when you get on it.

AMC20 rear, must be an optical illusion but the bolts on the 20 look funny from the front.

Need to shorten front DL no compression left will break TC or Transmission . The only way to ident an 18 from a 20 is 18 cast in bump for shift rail 20 has 2 thimbles, but inside can be either our you never know what PO has done.
