Yup thats just what Id do. Keep it in there and glue it up. There should be a gasket there also to help prevent any leaks. The one on my old AMC 304 was cracked in much the same way and didnt effect it that Im aware of. :)

Ok got it all back together, i went and got the right gasket. It runs ALOT better, but needs a little fine tuning. Guess im going to have to wait till tomorrow to go riding. My headlights nowarent working so time for e new thread. :)

It's the fuel bowl vent. It usually is plumbed back into your EGR vapor return system.

I've got to argue with CJ on this one :notworthy:. With the Motorcraft carb, the carb bowl vent should be routed back to the charcoal canister not the EGR valve.

78cj5, good to hear you got it running. If you need any help tuning, let us know :chug:

Your right - poor choice of words, EGR wasn't right - I did mean the emissions vapor system... :)

Does anyone one know what the valve parts under the purge signal cap on the charcoal canister look like? I have an 83 CJ7 and this valve on the charcoal canister is always open allowing air to be pulled through the canister into the carb. It looked like a PO had taken the cap off at least once before so I took the cap off and there is the diaphragm (which looks fine) and the spring, but it looks like it's missing a needle which should be held down in the valve opening until vacuum is applied from the CTO.

If he is in Moreno Valley I did buy from him 2 months ago. Bought a Carter BBD w/ stepper motor. Got it the next day also. He sold 1700 carbs and had 100% positive feedback. My 82 CJ7 with a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l liter was barely running ind wouldn't hold an idle and since it is a 5 speed was unsafe to drive. It wasn't driven in 2 years. I had to get it smogged so I changed the plugs, air filter, egr, oxygen sensor, control module and gave it an oil change. Then I installed the Carb. It fired right up and idled at 650 then and and then up to 800 and stayed there. It seems to be flooding itself out. It runs well for about a mile and then starts missing and then cuts out and won't start. I go back the next day and it fires right up. I also have backed the idle screw out all the way to no avail. I don't necessarily think its the carb. I live in Calif and we have very strict regulations here and this poor CJ7 is smogged to death. Lots of vacumn lines! I hope someone out there has a solution for me. I'm open for suggestions...........LaGuy:confused:
