Carburator question

Carburator question
A follow up ... Lumpy - drove the CJ all day Sunday, mostly between rain storms, sometimes not. To a bird show, to a gun show over to the X's to help her with a termite problem and landscaping. The CJ ran as well or better than she ever has. The result has been very satisfying. Now if it will pass next years emissions.

This is the very best of news. :dbanana:
Worry about the smog test, if and when you fail.

I've heard tell in some cities there's smog pass shops that'll de-tune your motor to pass emissions, then after DEQ you return to them and they restore the tune. Luckily I live in the boonies, but I feel that concrete creepin' ;)

True, but I don't like playing that game. I want a vehicle that simply passes. Hopefully with the leak problem finally solved the jeep will pass. Besides playing the detune to pass game gets expensive after a while.

What's the latest HH?
LG

The latest ...... The CJ is sitting in the driveway, nose pointed slightly upward, the old drum axle on blocks in front of it ready to give up a few good parts, I.E. Warn Deluxe Hubs and the steering stabilizer brackets. Don't know about the stabilizer yet. ....... Replacement disk brake axle with Tru-Track Eaton Limited slip in place, hanging on it's springs. She's waiting for old but, not old shocks, scavenged hubs and stabilizer brackets, the drive shaft needs to be hooked back up, calipers need to be hung on the rotors and brake lines. Didn't like the look of the wear on the rear spring bracket bolts, replacements will make me feel better. I also enjoyed the opportunity to clean up, square the springs and torque everything properly back in place. ....................... The power brake conversion still makes me nervous, but I can't sit on it now. ...... So, that's the latest. I did put over 100 miles on the new carb settings. It's nice to have that finally out of the way.

Sounds really good :chug: Did you get a new MC that is valved for disc/shoe brakes?

I feel like I've covered this so many times ...... With your help and others, yes I have the proper booster/master cylinder/proportioning valve all set up in what the seller refers to as and "All She Bang" unit. It is nicely done, what it isn't is small, nor is it a direct fit. New mounting holes will need to be drilled, new lines will have to be made up. I really liked my air cleaner modification with two snorkel's on it, now it looks like the snorkel I added will have to go or seriously modified.

Many of us have strong CRS issues-OR did you forget that? :poke:

No not really, it's the repeating it for the others that I keep thinking about. :)

Re~reading this thread I took note of 'adjusting jet screws' I think you meant mixture screws, and with regard to the retention springs on my carb the stock springs were very stiff and too long to get the screws to thread to even the median number of turns from stop. Luckily the local hardware had a spring set with varied gauges so I went a step down and cut it to length.

Turbogus - If I were you I'd stick to the stock springs, they are rarely the wrong size for their intended purpose. Yes, I am more than likely inaccurate in my description ..... but I do have running jeep.

Neuner - :) Of course I believe that EVERYBODY reads everything I write. I've written many times about this conversion .... drum brakes to disk brakes ...... the purchase of the axle .... the addition of a Tru-track Limited slip and re-gearing to 3.31s .... the debate between manual brake master cylinder and power assisted brakes ..... :) I hate to bore my fans by telling the same story over and over again.

The last thing I want to have happen is for folks to start thinking of me and my jeep story as being that of a possible troll. We've seem'em before. a skilled troll starts with a plausible problem. They gather information, but nothing actually works, with the problems becoming more broad and then more focused with almost impossible issues that are fixed, but not fixed all at the same time. Careful baiting, playing the fish ..... Eventually seemingly expertly picking apart the posts of those that are trying to help. It all can be a familiar pattern. Nope, that will never be me. My CJ actually moves, , but not as much as it will. I have a plan, a relatively ragged plan, but a plan none the less. The addition of the front axle would/will be/is a major step forward for my plan.

Oh good, you're smiling so that means you got my joke. I just didn't put the cheers :chug: or stick poke behind it :poke: like LG....

I don't think you're giving off the impression that you're in fear of. I find ALL of these reads very interesting. Very good way to learn.

Thanks, but honestly I don't want to become overly repetitive. Over time that becomes boring.

I hear ya hedgehog, the burned up Carter clone carb has shorter lighter springs as does the Mopar AFB I have in the wings, that's just one of a couple of things that makes this 'Black Stallion carb. unusual. Hope I didn't poke the bear too much ;)
