Hey everyone,

my 360 is currently at the machine shop, in the process of a rebuild. Im having some trouble picking out a solid carb. There are simply to many options. I was hoping to get everyones input, recommendations and personal experiences.

In terms of my setup, what I can tell you now is that I have en eddy performer intake, flowmaster exhaust and an upgraded cam. I would love to tell you guys exactley what cam but Im not sure since Ive never opened the engine. Its certainly not stock that I cant tell.

The cj is my daily driver so no need for any heavy off road carbs, pretty much street use. The engine will be slightly modified so im looking for something to keep up the trend

Ideally something that will be responsive, especially in the low to mid rpm ranges. Im not planning on doing any excessive redline shifting

I looked at the holley 570 street avenger, 670 street avenger, some of the eddy thunder avs series, then even some q jets, im a little stumped at this point.

any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Re: Carburetor Recommendatio

I would recommend a Q-jet if you are going to go in the dirt, and the Holley 570 for the street or sand.

Re: Carburetor Recommendatio

Appreciate the feedback..
After some thought im just gonna keep it simple. I had the eddy 1400 600 CFM (with egr) on there before and it ran great. Since im planning on hooking up all that egr stuff again and had a good experience with the same carb I may just get another one

Like I said this cj is my daily driver so fuel ecenomy where possible is the goal, no matter how little it may be 😁

Since I have the engine apart now anyway I was thinking of maybe also throwing an HEI on there to replace the stock ignition

Re: Carburetor Recommendatio

A little late...but I'll throw in for the Q-jet also. I ran one on my 401 for a few years before going propane and it was an awesome carb. small primaries for low end stuff and fuel economy, and large secondaries when you want to open it up.

Offroad, I could run dang near sideways or straight up and down and it would keep going.

Re: Carburetor Recommendatio

I have a holley truck avenger 670 right now and have ran the Edelbrock 1405 before. The holley has great throttle response and power but sucks gas down like crazy. The Edelbrock was decent and easier to tune but had less low end and better mileage. With that I am going to be trying on a 1978 4M Quadrajet today to see if I can get better gas mileage and hopefully smooth out my idle. This is on a chevy 350 for reference. I just cannot take 10-12 MPG anymore and hope I can get up to 15 mpg.

Basically I am trying to say that if I were to rate the Holley to edelbrock I would go edelbrock first and holley second. In about a week I should have a good idea if the Quadrajet will trump them both. The only caveate to the Quadrajet is you need to by an adapter riser plate to the use square bore manifold that you own. They are only $25 from Summit racing. If you dont mind doing your own rebuild, I picked mine up from Ebay for $40, bought a $30 rebuild kit and $25 for the adapter. All in all not a bad price.

Re: Carburetor Recommendatio

Can you guys possibly recommend a quadrajet carb for me to take a look at, im curious. The fact that I would need an adapter plate are there any negatives I should be aware of in terms of fit, flow etc. One last thing im curious of, since I already have all the stuff for the EGR can that be adapted to only certain types/models of carbs?

Kane, I know exactley where you are coming from, every mpg I can squeeze out counts. Let me know how the quadrajet works for you.

I will let you know. I went to install it friday but got called into work and my weekend was full of other plans. I hope to have it on by wednesday.
